Nice mate , good to see the MMM is running cool with the new firmware and no external bec .

DRIFT_BUGGY 10.26.2008 03:32 AM

Well got pizza for lunch and went and did some more jumping/running in the backyard and after about 2 hours of more running disaster struck  .............. I hit a jump wrong which sent the buggy flipping towards my son (21 months) who was playing in little sand pit and the buggy struck him in the head and split his head open. So trip to the hospital for the poor little guy. He was ok, but lost alot of blood.
The MMM is still going strong though, it seems to have more punch and better throttle response with the new firmware.

tc3_racer_001 10.26.2008 07:21 AM

more punch- how about RIDICULIOUS PUNCH. 100% seems to do nothing...

i can wheelie with 100%. struggled with 0 before. (V2 BTW)

good to know everythings good. pitty about your son! hope he gets better!

DRIFT_BUGGY 10.26.2008 06:24 PM

My son is fine. When I running around the yard and I flip over, he gets real angry with me if I go and flip the buggy back over as he wants to do it. He always comes with me to the track and stands in pit lane watching me.

DRIFT_BUGGY 10.26.2008 10:36 PM

Well got to go down to the track today for the first time in about 2 months. First time I have been to the track running a different setup (shocks changed, diff fluid now 7/10/3) but I ended up taking my old bold tires down to the track. I got 35 minutes out of the first battery before LVC kicked in (16.4V) and highest recording temp for the 1st run was Motor - 170F, Battery 120F and ESC was 135F. ESC was running 135F as I didn't realise that a twig got jammed in the fan and the fan was working. Took the twig out and fan starting going again. ESC temp went down to 125F once fan started working. It was hard to say if the setup was great as bold tires didn't help but even with the bold tires, it seemed to handle pretty good.
I let everything cool down and then went out for another run. Temps got a little hotter this time, Motor - 180F, Battery - 120F and ESC - 130F but that might be becuase it was now the middle of the day and was a pretty hot day. Bold tires also don't help. After 35 minutes I noticed that one of the tires was unglued but I thought that the battery would ran out soon so I kept on going. Flat out down the back straight lost control and hit the wall pretty hard and ended up stripping the thread that the screw goes into hold down the turnbuckle on the spindle. Didn't matter, didn't ruin my day as that was probably the most fun I have had with a R/C. Castle has done a excellent job with this new firmware. No issues at all and it doesn't look like stopping at all. So nice to not have a ext. bec. on anymore.

tc3_racer_001 10.27.2008 02:08 AM

good to know that im not the only one with a hot motor (170+F). although im getting 160+ after only 6 minutes. in the mains though it doesnt seem to get past 175 before stablising. mind you, it was a 35C day in the shade!!

DRIFT_BUGGY 10.27.2008 09:09 PM

Got to go to the track again today. I put some new Losi Step Pins on, what a difference it makes having tread, doesn't feel like you driving on ice.
1st battery went good, got 37 minutes on it before LVC kicked in. Temps were; Motor - 175F, ESC - 130F & Battery - 130F.
I let it cool down and then ran the next battery. After 22 minutes I bought the buggy into the pits to check the temps and the motor was 195F :oh: (ESC 135F and Batter 120F) It was another hot day but I have never cleaned the motor/bearings. So ill clean and check over the motor and hopefully get another run tommorrow.

jeez, and your in sydney! im screwed in brizzy running a hotter motor, smooth can, heavier car and ambient temps cracking 40 regularly in summer!!!

hope you get it under control, sounds like alot of fun though!

Im in Central QLD. Surely it can't be from running thicker diff fluid in front and rear.

Have you tried going up one tooth on the pinion to see if the motor temps come down , sounds like your undergeared .

No, i'll try that tomorrow. I was running a larger tooth before I changed all the settings (MMM settings/diff settings etc.) which was when I 1st built it.

Should solve it , your other temps are so good seems strange your motor temps went up .

Are you going to try the AKA tires out , you won't go back to any other brand .

Battery went up 10F - 15F aswell but its not longer winter which probably why it went up abit.
Here is a shot of my current MMM settings. I only recently changed the punch control from 50% to 70%.

I won a set of 4 premounted Losi Step Pin Tires (off new Losi 8ight) off ebay america for $15US. Currently using them which is better than nothing. I will try out the AKA City Blocks for sure. Haven't had to luck in Australia but most of my orders I do from Amain or Impakt anyway.

DRIFT_BUGGY 10.29.2008 01:43 AM

Well put the 14T pinion in and after 15 minutes the temps of the ESC was 140F and the motor 185F. I then set the punch control back to 50% and put the 13t pinion back in and after another 15 minutes which is when the lvc kicked in the temps were 130F for the esc and 175F on the motor. I'll hopefully get a chance to run another battery and check the temps again. Surely the thicker diff fluids aren't making the motor run hotter. I only went 2000wt thicker in the front and 1000wt thicker in the rear

Never heard of diff fluids doing that .

It's getting hotter in Melbourne and was 28 today my temps went up about 10 degrees across the board from last run but all well within acceptable temps .

I run medium timing on my Medusa as i was told by others and Medusa recommends medium timing on 4 pole motors so maybe you can try that.

Check your bearings in the motor as well and your whole driveline as something could be binding .

With AKA couldn't find any in OZ either ,A Main is the best bet or Imapkt ( i do most of my business with them as well )or try ebay for a bargain . Kyosho MP9 comes standard with medium compound City Blocks so look for one that is being parted , there a few at the moment
