At the moment I am heavily considering to invest in a Schulze ESC as it has brakes. I think it would be almost impossible to fit any mechanical brakes into the truck as well, and it would also result in more weight

I hope a 40.160 would be enough, on the specs it compares to the JetiSpin200 I'm using and I have seen speed boats running LMT 3080 motors on the 40.160 so it should be able to work - it however requires water cooling. Any opinions and experiences to share with me on this would be appreciated.

I ran my 40.160 with 10S lipos, Neu 1521/1Y in my truggy and it did a great job in destroying my diffs , putting out over 140A burst multiple times and providing close to 10 minutes of pure speed rush. Since I have the older 40.160, it doesn't have an LVC. The new ones I think does and you might be able to make a heat sink for it. I have now switched to my own ESCs and I use a 10S version in my race truggy and the 6S version in the truggy mentioned above.

mckrill; what brand & model tires are those?

suicideneil 05.10.2010 09:45 AM

Damn, thats got more damage after one run than my Gmaxx has after about 3-4 years...

mckrill 05.10.2010 12:14 PM

Hello,

The tires are Panther Meat Grinder T100

Yes, the truck took some serious beating, gotta get those hoses really soon.

Lutach - thanks for the information. I followed the build of your ESC for quite some time, it's available?

I actually did it to show that a airplane ESC can be programmed with a car software. It was also to show how efficient a proper HV set up runs. Now I'm waiting for more manufacturers to come out with a HV controller. My plan is to visit Castle Creations and see if Patrick can make my own designs. I'm also still waiting for a guy to make me a heat sink that has the ability to move 2-3 times more heat away from the MOSFETs, so if that works out or gets made, it should make things a bit easier. Some of my ideas have been used already, but the good ones are still in my head.

mckrill 05.11.2010 03:20 AM

Whaow, can't wait to get my hands on one of those..

I feel that 14s becomes a little messy, partly due to the limited numbers of 7s packages and chargers available. 12s would be ideal and still keep the current draw low enough to use more simple connectors, thinner cables etc.

BEC availability is a problem by it self, but I consider to get one of the western robotics Hercules BEC's, it is supposed to be good for 14s. Anyone having experience with them?

Does anyone know were to get 10mm bore Mod1 pinions?

JERRY2KONE 05.11.2010 08:28 AM

Suggestion

My suggestion would be to shoot MonsterMike a PM and ask him for what you require. He may already have something or can more than likely get his hands on it.

10mm bore? Wow, thats huge- give these guys a try too:

Good stuff man, pretty sure kevlar hasn't been done before!

To solve your shock mount issue - just fab up a plate that goes across the backside of both shocks. I bent my FLM towers when I converted to the LST shocks, and putting that plate on solved it.

eh...now that I read the rest of the thread, I see that Neil bet me to it....

If you do upgrade to aluminum towers, you might also consider doing the bulkheads. They become the weak point (been there, done that).

JERRY2KONE 05.14.2010 12:17 AM

Never ending

Thats the thing with these types of builds. Once you start the upgrading process it never ends. If you improve one weak spot because it revealed itself during opporation it moves the weak point to another part. This is why my projects have taken so long to build. I have been trying to avoid wasting time putting what I know are already weak parts into my projects by purchasing better components, and that all takes time and money that take time to come up with. Nothing ever really reaches "Bulletproof" capaciaty, because we keep coming up with ways to break them.

mckrill 05.14.2010 03:22 AM

Good answering Jerry!

I have decided to keep the plastic shock towers, but add the brace - I already have a 4mm CF-plate for this..

When running the truck last time I noticed that the motor did run hot, so have decided to change to a motor with one more winding, and also add the air-cooling / fan option.

I have also been investigating the ESC situation again and decided that the best option woul be to go for the Schulze 40.160wk ESC, it would also solve the brake issue.. The Jetispin200 will be up for sale (or Ill use it for another project I have on the planning stage)

mckrill 05.14.2010 03:25 AM

I made a try to fit a larger diameter motor in, but as of now the maximum diameter before actually having contact with the drive shaft is apx 45-46mm. Using a larger Pinion and lower kV would improve the situation, but no very much.
