The tranny will provide more gear reduction, which I find helps things run cooler eventhough you gear for the same speed. A tranny will allow all wheel action all the time. Slow crawling or climbing obstacles or maybe mudding wont be an issue.

The CD allows for sharper turning and proportionate power distribution.

I would like a fast truck and i do not like wheelies.i Will not bash in th mud should i use a CD?

I don't see the diffs listed anymore. Didn't they sell them out? Thought I remember people saying they were receiving lots of refunds because many of the popular items were all gone.

JERRY2KONE 03.29.2010 06:09 PM

Yes it did.

Yes that was the case. I received 4 of them and just placed another order with one more diff on the list this past weekend. They still had some over the weekend, just not the hardened diff. I guess now those are gone as well. Try hitting AMain and see if they have any left.

JERRY2KONE 03.30.2010 01:38 AM

Sure is

It sure is. That it the 50T spur center diff unit. I picked up two of those for $9 each in that HPI garage sale. But yes that is what you are looking for. With the hardened gears installed it is pretty much indestructable. You can even take it one step further and use one of the RCM diff cups designed for the Savage, and get rid of the plastic cup because it can still flex under stress. The aluminum cups not only work well but they look awesome.

Will this one fit mikes CD mount? Is it better than the HB diff?

suicideneil 03.30.2010 02:19 PM

The size of the spur gears you can use is listed & discussed a few pages back, have a quick look through. The ofna diff is arguably better as it has a metal case, but I've only ever seen 1 plastic 1/8 scale diff case thats become damaged inside and had to be replaced. Just one...

Which size spur you actually use is just a question of gearing for a certain speed with a certain kv motor and certain sized tires etc- use BrianG's calculator to determine what sizes you can use ( bearing in smind the size/ tooth count limited and pitches- 32p or Mod1.0 ).

Maxxrickard 03.30.2010 02:45 PM

Is the spur gear standard? Will hb fit the ofna diff?
I dont find what page u talk about, please Link. But the ofta diff will fit the mount?

JERRY2KONE 03.30.2010 07:09 PM

Yes

Yes the diff will fit the mount, but the maxx tooth count you can fit in teh RCM mount is like a 44T or 45T MAX. Most of the diffs are interchangable so the spur gears are as well.

RC-Monster Mike 03.30.2010 07:24 PM

The mount itself will accomodate up to around a 47t without the need for clearance below the spur gear. Larger spurs will fit the mount, but clearance below it would be needed to accomodate the spur diameter and gearing would become limited with large spurs as well(has a pretty wide range, though). In a standard maxx truck, nothing larger than a 44t spur will fit between the chassis braces without clearance issues, but the mount itself will indeed accomodate larger gears. :)

Hey Mike, what's the deal with these? Is there any ETAs on the next batch?

Thanks and welcome home :)

RC-Monster Mike 03.31.2010 05:51 PM

Hoping to get the next batch done for next week - still catching up on emails, etc. while I was at RCX. :)

BrianG 03.31.2010 05:57 PM

You mean you didn't have a laptop with you at the RCX booth answering emails at the same time? For shame! And here I thought you were superhuman.

JERRY2KONE 03.31.2010 06:20 PM

The Cyclops only has one eye ya know. That kind of limits multi-tasking for him.

I think you just compared Mike to an iPhone lol.

Thanks and I'll be looking forward to seeing them in when you get the time

Thanks for the heads up. got one this time

Maxxrickard 06.18.2010 04:18 PM

What kind of oil do i use in à cd? 10000?

Kcaz25 06.18.2010 06:36 PM

In a maxx that won't hit the track I'd do 20,000-30,000, It would make for better wheelies when desired. If you plan to bash or race with truggies I'd say yeah 10k. This is assuming 4s and dirt conditions.

Maxxrickard 06.20.2010 01:32 PM

Maxx truck, 5s, bashtruck...
30k?

Kcaz25 06.20.2010 01:46 PM

Yeah or 20k.

Maxxrickard 06.20.2010 04:24 PM

Thanks

justchil 01.13.2011 03:07 PM

I agree. Lets get them going again. I picked up two of them when they were finally released after two years of waiting. I would pick up a few more if Mike would do another run of them.

justchil 01.14.2011 09:33 AM

Yeah!

I read all 26 pages of this thread... I deserve a Maxx CD :D

wow... that is sweet! nice work Mike...

JERRY2KONE 06.30.2011 03:38 PM

Figures

Than figures. We are on vacation and our money is tied up in travel plans, theme parks visits, rental cars, and hotel fees. Make a bunch Mike.

RC-Monster Mike 06.30.2011 03:50 PM

I should be able to keep this version in stock - it is more "universal" than the previous version in that the bearing inserts are plastic and can be removed - a custom insert could allow a different bearing type, such as the losi flanged bearing. Also, with the inserts removed, a 19mm bearing should fit(didn't chase high tolerance, but it will be very close, as the hole is drawn at .75" and a 19mm bearing = .748"). The sliding upper plate also allows easy fitment of different length diffs by allowing the uprights to be spaced as needed.

JoFreak 06.30.2011 03:55 PM

Nice!
Looks good, I like it definately better than the previous version.

But still wouldn't trade it for my g-maxx edition:lol:
