Sorry about the female plug mixup guys. I ordered a 1717 car version, but was a victim of the dreaded 1717 air/car mixup (despite Thomas's best efforts) and got the air version. This motor came with a set of female connectors, so I wrongly assumed they all did. My bad.
That said, when the new car motor comes in, I might check to see if it too comes with the female connectors, and if not, "borrow" them from the air motor package. Don't tell Patrick or Thomas though! Seriously, I'll call them first and they can just add the extra cost to my account. |

Hi, the 1717 has arrived ! It is the CAR version, with 5 mm shaft (as it was ordered - Thanks Castle :yipi:)
I have just noted that turning the shaft by hand is a more easily operation with respect the Castle 1520, as if the magnet would less stronger that the 1520 ones. Is it normal ? Bye, Andrea. |
Thanks Thomas I received my car 1717 fits great in my SC8E.BTW I sent the air version back today.

[QUOTE=Mmirage;383524]
They need unlimited R&D money for something BIG that is gonna come in the RC world ? Some Chinese guy perhaps showed up at Castle's CEO desk and offered him a design of a revolutionary (brushless) motor with 99.9% efficiency and 10% of the production costs of a NEU/Lehner/Pletti ??? Who knows.... What are your ideas? QUOTE] I would go with the R&D theory. Maybe a new pick and place machine to cover the large sales volumes created by the New HV Mamba ESC? Yeah, I like this one the best. |

My 2 cents. The knock-off's deserve it. Castle is a great company with great products. :yipi: |
Got the rest of my 1717 (2X) car version today. I am very pleased with the quality of Castle Products. Thanks again for correcting the motors.
|
@Thomas, thanks for taking the time responding on my "conspiracy" post, appreciated. It explains a lot!
But what about the fact that you will have a pretty hard time selling even the popular motors at a normal price again after the sale? Like I said, who is gonna pay 200 for a 1515 from you guys when they can get a slightly bigger one for about half the price on ebay. Assuming that all of us who bought probably too much motors are gonna sell them again once the best motors for projects have been chosen. Did not think abouth the soldering theory, interesting one  I do hate soldering myself as well. |
My motors are in the hands of the evil customs guys right now...
Hope they aren't going to take over a week again like last time. |
I'm guessing mine are stuck to. Though I still haven't received a letter asking the value and content of the box... Stupid customs!!
What do you need to pay for customs? Dutch customs: Less than 20 euro = free From 20 to 150 euro = 19% on top of the product value + 12.50 euro declaration costs Above 150 euro = 19% on top of the product value + 4.8% on top of the product value and shipping costs + 12.50 euro declaration costs |
Thomas, any info or update about my order? I replied your pm but I haven't received any information concerning my order.
Thanks for your help. |

Seems OK to me as my 1717 turns a lot easier than any of the 15XX motors I have. I initially ordered just one 1518 as I went pretty hard at my credit card last few weeks. Day or two later I had a change of hart and got another 1518 with 1520 and 1717. Don't even have cars yet to fit them in but at the price I couldn't resist. Was looking at the cheaper ------ copies but one would be crazy to spend more on a copy. Thanks Castle.:yipi: Now I have to order a buggy and a truggy to make use out of the extra motors I bought. Thanks Castle. (as if my credit card hasn't suffered enough already) Anyway I placed the orders and with in a week I received them on the other side of the world. I didn't get a shipping notification like many others so I was a little worried but all turned out great. I guess they would have been far too busy trying to get all those orders out the door. |

Here in Australia we only have to pay if the shipment exceeds AU$1000 (shipping costs excluded). If our customs fees were anything like yours I doubt I could afford to be in the hobby. |
uk customs:
STUPID Less than £15 is free... anything over is %20 + handling fee... if its express mail its £18 handling fee, if its just normal it £10.... such a rip :( it makes me cry cost me £50 to get my motors from customs... and thats not the most i have ever paid... |
Got my motors in today.
I got a 1520 and 1717 = $65 + $70 = $135 = 101 euro I had to pay an extra of 37 euro = $49!! 37 euro - 12.50 euro (handling) = 24.50 euro 24.50 euro is more than 19% of 101 euro (the product value) But I paid $40 on shipping which is 30 euro 101 euro (motors) + 30 euro (shipping) = 131 euro * 19% = 24.50 euro! So conclusion : The fags @ customs now also charge VAT over shipping costs!! 1520 : 48 euro 1717 : 52 euro Shipping : 30 euro VAT : 37 euro Thank the lord almighty that the $ is relatively low vs the euro otherwise it would almost not be worth it buying from the US. Please remind that despite the shipping and VAT charges it's cheaper to buy in the VS than buying here in the Netherlands. You have to sell a long in order to buy some spares for you car. |
The 1717 is alot smoother than the 1520.Me Likey
|
Thomas - Sorry PM - Looks like I got a 6mm Air 1717 not the Car version! Thanks

And the percentage added to the 19% for shippments over 150€ depends on what sort of stuff you order. For example model cars made from plastic have an additional 3% afaik, but model cars made from metal have no additional fee. Don't ask me what a collosal drunkhead the person had to be, who invented this system. Package is still with customs. Took them 8 or 9 days last time.:diablo: 2 days to fly the package half way around the world. Over a week for some bloke to check the invoice papers and put a label on the box with the amount of money the postman has to collect. That's bureaucracy deluxe for you... |

I just checked, it seems it's normal that VAT is calculated over shipping expenses as well. Oh well still only $115 for a motor. |
Wow Korean customs is really efficient compared to Europe it seems. I usually get a text message to declare the value the evening of the day they get it except on weekends. They are open 24 hours and will accept an emailed copy of the invoice. The longest I have had something in customs was 4 days and that's only because I 'accidentally' declared the wrong value and they caught it.
We are supposed to pay 20% on top of the item value plus shipping but somehow they usually only charge me about 8%. I think I paid about $40 for my last order of 5 motors. Looks like castle's ordering system is back to normal. My order this week was invoiced and I even got a 'package shipped to you' email this time. |
I bought a single motor and got a customs charge of £15 which is rouhgly $25!!! quite a lot!!! But i am still happy
|
Got my 1717 car version in the other day and installed in my XT8. The mount takes a little work due to the use of 4mm screws and gearing options are somewhat limited due to the motor's diameter, but wow! Pulling my girl around in her wagon (pretty much all this truck is used for lately) seems effortless compared to the Tekin truggy motor!

Guys
What are we talking about we all should know what the extra costs are if we buy from another counrty. CC can't do anything about it. I think all the things about extra charges should not be in this Topic. |
patric

I'm still "patiently" waiting for a reply from Castle/Thomas on the status of my order which I placed and received a confirmation on September 25. Ten more days and it will be a month and it still have to be resolved.
I wish I'm home so I can call overseas long distance but I can't since I'm onboard this "supercarrier" floating in the ocean while on deployment. Here's what I ordered: -----------------Individual Item Breakdown----------------- > > Item Ref. Price ea. Qty. Thanks for your Patience Dena Hopefully Castle will sort this out. |
Received my order today (ordered 30th sept) 2143-0927-6727, unfortunately I have received a 1512/1.5y motor in a 1520/1y box:oops: (which is of no use for my truggy)
can Thomas or Patrick let me know how to resolve this? Darren |
Quote:
Call and ask for Dena - -tell her what happened. We'll get a replacement out to you right away. Thanx! Patrick |
Thanks Patrick, I'll have to wait till I get home as am at work at the mo (I dont think my employer would appreciate me calling The USA from the UK)
Sorted!! Many thanks Darren |

Thanx! |
My motors left customs today (only 3 days this time!) and should be delivered to me tomorrow if everything runs as it should.
Wish me luck boys! |
Wow what a sale. I've been out of the hobby for a while since I burned up all my motors. This is exactly what the doctor ordered. :yipi:
Time to dust off the trucks and buggies. Can I put the 1717 in a 1/5 scale on-road? It is relatively light and only 2wd. BTW, can I run the 1717 on 8s? It seems I should only run it on 6S. |
45k RPM max with the 1717, 8S would be better with the 1520 maybe, but with low gearing.
|
Went to pick up my motors from the local customs office today. They didn't believe the value declared with the motors and wanted to see proof of my payment with that actual value on it.
29€ customs (for 205$ value), about 2 hours of my time, ~10l petrol (~14€ right now), but still, couldn't be happier right now:yes: And it still is a massive bargain, not that anyone gets the idea I'm complaining or something! And exactly what I ordered in the package. No wrong boxes, and no wrong motors in right boxes. But boy is that 1717 a monstrosity, makes the 1518 in my g-maxx look tiny:lol: Thank's Castle! |
