you might want to go with the 1521 instead there is a member on the board who tried a 1527 in a Savage and he didnt like it ...saying you couldnt contol all of the power

Well, I already have the 1527 ordered and they are making it for me so I don't think I can turn back now. My truck is most likely going to be heavier than his so maybe it'll be able to handle the power better. I can also have the slipper set a bit looser than super tight (so just tight). If it ends up being too much to handle, I can order a 1521... but hopefully it won'tbe!

Thanks for the heads up.

So.. plans have changed, again!
Why can't I just stick with one plan?
So I'm changing the design because a few reasons:
I don't want the batteries to stick out of the sides of the chassis
The brake system that I had planned was just a bit weak
The design that I had was a bit too complicated and would be extremely hard to put together/do maintenence on.

I have a new design in my head, and it is a little bit different, but not by much. I am also going to be using this new platform to create a Savage/Truggy hybrid as another project as well.

I'm throwing myself on a rollercoaster, but this should be the last one! I hope. I just want to get it right the first time, as I'm a bit of a perfectionist at times...

Haha thanks. This new design that I am working on should be much better (imo). Much more simple. Not only will it be easier to work on, but it will also probably cost much less to get machined, which is a big plus!

Well my new design is almost finished! I'll probably have the whole basic drawing done tomorrow. :yipi: It is a bit.. unconventional and different than anything I've seen on a Savage, but you all will see that soon. I'm also switching to running 2 6s Zippy-R 4800 mah packs as my Dad is going to buy my Thunder Powers from me, so that has affected the layout of everything considerably.

I need to start looking for a body for it though, as it is going to be 30mm longer than the FLM extended LCG TVPs. (70mm over stock, I think?) The Savage XL body is a little bit too short, it would probably fit if I didn't have to fit it around the LST shocks, but there's no way I'm taking off those beefy things. So does anyone know of a body that isn't 1/5th scale, but long enough to fit this large of a truck?

I rekon a genesis sized body would work since its wheelbase is 60mm longer than the stock savage (397 verses 336.5) and is also 7mm longer, in wheelbase, than the XL which you said was a bit too short. Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Genesis. Thanks, that should help a lot!

No problem, glad that helped I've got one coming for my flm savage, not quite as long as yours though:yes:. Good luck with the project.

bl-is-future 08.07.2008 08:36 AM

yep i run the genesis body on my flm and the front is just behind the bumper as is the rear. So this should give you plenty of leeway for your chassis.

edit- look at my avatar, that is the genesis body on the FLM conversion. The rear is just as close to the bumper.

E-Traxxer 08.07.2008 08:44 AM

Looks like a Genesis Body is on the top of my list now, then.
Thanks again guys. :yipi:

bl-is-future 08.07.2008 08:51 AM

oh forgot to tell you though that escalade body is the longest. That is the style on my truck link here - http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...2&I=LXPCG5&P=K some genesis bodies are shorter. Just look at the lengths to see how shorter.

Oh alright, thanks for the info.

I'm also going to post what I have for the speed calc now, mainly for my own records, since things tend to get lost on my hardrive... (It's those cyborg lawn gnomes with USB connections, I say!)

Differential Ratio: 3.3076923076923075
Transmission Ratio: 2
Other Ratio: 1
Spur Tooth Count: 38
Pinion Tooth Count: 14
Total Voltage: 44.4
Motor KV: 1150
Tire Diameter (inches): 6.9
Tire Ballooning (inches): 0
Motor Current Draw: 0
Motor coil Ω: 0
Spur/Pinion Ratio: 2.71 : 1
Total Ratio: 17.95604 : 1
Tire Circumference (inches): 21.68 inches (550.6 mm)
Total Motor Speed: 51060 RPM

Estimated Adjusted Speed: 54 mph (86 km/h) - 8% loss

Hmm, I just found this body for the MGT http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFUL9&P=7
It says it's 20 inches (shorter than the Cadillac for the Genesis) but also says its 556mm (longer than the Genesis one).
Hmm...
