Ok I just received a set of hybrid bulks from RCM and I also purchased a set of Hot Bodies Diffs with hardened steel gears to go in them. I got the 10 tooth helical pinion to go with the setup and man is it beefy. I never knew that they were so heavy duty. I am truly glad that I decided to put this setup together and use it in one of my trucks just to try it out. Now I am sure that I will be purchasing more to convert my other builds. Anyway my question is this. I have everything I need to put these hybrid diffs together except for the pinion gear bearings. What is the size of those bearings and are they listed anywhere? Also is there an aluminum diff cup out there to fit these HB diffs? Any info or links would be grately appreciated. Thanks guys.

I can take measurements of a jammin one if it helps? I know nova makes cups for the jammin, they look almost identical to the HB cups.

Updates

Sounds good. We all look forward to seeing this thing running. I also have some info to clarify. I purchased aluminum diff cups for the hybrid diffs. I got a pair of the Maximizer cups, and a pair of the RCM diff cups for the savage. They work perfectly in the hybrid diff housings. The only thing that I did not realize was that the bearing on the diff cup was an odd size, so I had to order them special and I am still waiting on them to come in. I think they are 12X16X5. Sine I had ordered a huge lot of bearings from that bearing company and got the free caliper I got to use it, and made sure that I ordered the correct bearings. So now I am waiting on them to arrive. The only problem is that the movers are packing our stuff up right this minute. SO now it has to wait till we arrive in Korea.

Overall I now see why everyone likes these hybrid diffs for the Maxx and Revo trucks. They are really hefty and seem to be pretty much indestructable as long as you set them up correctly. With the builds I am working on they will have to be. Nice work on your custom chassis setup. Have you run that thing yet? I look forward to seeing some videos of your toy tearing up the dirt.

Ok so things have been a little hectic lately, between my best friends wedding and my sister moving to Texas i've been neglecting my truck. I ran it once but the temps were through the roof, and it handled like crap. I bought a sway bar kit for an 8ight and got them partialy installed. I'm thinking about going to a 6s system to cool things down and get a better battery.

Any suggestions on a motor and controller combo?

MMM esc and motor combo- pre-order it now from tower or where-ever has it advertised. You wont find better value or quality in that price bracket ($300-350).

question about the lst 2 diff convertion
do my traxxas driveshaft and center cvd can be use whit this convertion
a got a 3905 maxx

mriccucci 07.16.2008 10:31 PM

You'll need to purchase the adapters mike sells, here
. those will go in place of the normal outputs for the left and right. so if you replace both diffs you'll need 4 of those units.

Or you can buy the revo stub axles and cut the threaded portion off.

Oh god this poor truck!!! back again kind of but i got some dumb questions..... If I just plug in and run my twin MMM will the LVC work right for the two 4S batts !?!?!?! I am asking because back a few months for the life of me I could not get the castle link to work for me :(

suicideneil 08.13.2008 04:03 PM

I believe there is an 'auto lipo' setting that will detect how many cells you are running, but whether this is default or not im not sure. Start your castlelink programme first, then with your castlelink, make sure you plug in the little pcb into the usb lead, then plug that into your PC/laptop. Now connect the pcb castlelink to the rx lead of the MMM, and it should be detected by the PC and programme.

Ever heard of the Unslow harness for running a dual BL setup?..

No please enlighten me :)

I also see that there are still problems with the MMM v2? Guess ill send mines back/ ano this bitch black/ and try to figure out how in the hell to get that dam castle link to work on my computer.

suicideneil 08.16.2008 09:08 AM

If your MMMs work fine, I wouldnt bother sending them back unless they die- the replacement V2s will be more reliable, but if it aint broke & all that..

As for the unlsow harness:

_paralyzed_ 08.18.2008 01:34 PM

that unslow??? harness just runs the batteries in parallel, so both controllers always see the same voltage, effectively making it a "one battery, two esc, two motor system" you're not on a vista computer are you? vista doesn't like the castle link, you should though get the link working and make sure your mmm's are set to either 4s or auto lipo, better safe than exploded

suicideneil 08.18.2008 04:33 PM

UNSLOW = co-designer of the parallel harness. When traxxas unveiled the V-twin concept, millions of noobs on the traxxas forum instantly wanted to know how to do their own version, so me and Unslow came up with item to make sure that lipo batts discharged evenly, preventing the lvc kicking in on one esc before the other.
