What I usually do is get a best-case speed and a worst-case speed.

To get the best-case speed, I use 4.2v/cell for the lipo and the maximum ballooning I think would be possible. Also, if I know it, I also use the unloaded motor kv value.

To get the worst-case speed, I use 3.3v/cell for lipo and no ballooning. Again, if known, I use the loaded motor kv value.

Either case will be wrong, but you know your speed has to be somewhere in the middle, probably a little towards the best-case side.

Very cool - Thanks for the LST stuff and the tech support on the calculations too. Keep up the nice work. It is definitely appreciated.

No problem. I have to make sure it's full-featured now that it's a stickie! :)

I was looking at the web referrer stats for my site and noticed that it's making it around to a few other R/C forums: www.lstforums.com, 30486.rapidforum.com, and www.maximummt.com. I thought that was kinda interesting for something just pieced together...

I know I 've linked the Calculator a few times over at lstforums.com:) Very interesting though with maximummt.com. Is it a Canadian site?

BrianG 12.16.2006 12:45 PM

Don't know really...

jhautz 01.13.2007 04:22 AM

Brian... How come I dont see the slipperential in the speed calculator as a transmision option? Can you add it?

EDIT:OK forget it .... I'm retarded. Its there.

Serum 01.13.2007 04:33 AM

yup.. it's there for sure.. well hidden in a roll-down menu.. :p

It even has the rcmonster.com in front of it to.

I just tested My setup with your calculator and a radar gun:

Gorilla racing G2R
18/51
9XL
Mamba Max ESC
4s LIPO
proline bowtie 40 series tires with wabash wheels (5.8", according to proline)
Emaxx tranny half tranny conversion
revo diffs

according to your calculator, it showed 30.65MPH at 3.7v per cell, radared it today at 30MPH (doesn't do decimals) with a bushnell radar gun, so i guess you're calculator is set very good, now it looks like i can run setups with confidence

crazyjr, did you factor in any tire ballooning? It looks like the approximate speed is so accurate because you accounted for tire ballooning by putting in a higher voltage (the cells are probably closer to 3.5v).

BrianG 01.16.2007 12:49 AM

OK experts. I added another section for lipo wiring. It's in "beta" stage, so you can't access it from the menu and some parts may not be fully done. I just want to know if this makes sense and will be of use. If so, I'll finish it up.

It also looks like I'm going to have to come up with a new menu scheme since the text links are getting too wide. Maybe a menu system something like this for bling? (my old home page. Don't laugh, it's old and hasn't been updated in a REALLY long time). Or should it stay simple?

I think you should dress it up with some carbon fiber. Maybe some rc-monster logo's somewhere? Just a thought...

Bye:018:

BrianG 01.16.2007 01:35 AM

OK, I can dress it up somewhat, but I don't want to make it look "busy" or hard to read with complex background images, especially patterns like CF. Maybe if I faded it so it was lighter...

BTW: I just uploaded an update for the lipo page. It appears I named a function to a built-in function and there was a clash. Fixed now, and works better. :)

MetalMan 01.16.2007 01:51 AM

The Lipo hookup page should help a lot of people understand how Lipo packs are built. Here's an idea, though - maybe duplicate the single pack selection to show how to add two packs in series.

No i didn't, just factored 5.8"diameter according to Proline
