The rotor is not damaged at all, the bearing didn't explode, it just locked it self. At the end of the run, I noticed some difficulty to turn the motor by hand so i decided to open it and check this out. The rear bearing is still fine.
I just put some wd40 in the front one, it is now as free as new. I will grease it and go !

20-25 packs per week since 7-8 months. indeed, it's a used motor, but it still works really fine... Moreover the bearing has not a lot of play compared to a new bearing...

I've installed my 1520 in my Old school Lightning Stadium Pro-2, running 5s and lovin' it.

Gosh, this motor can take some serious punishment and still dishes out a healthy serving of real power :lol:... I bashed mine hard on Sunday and it was oodles of fun!!
I put some slicks (spent bow-ties) on it, filled the CD with some 50k oil... pulling full throttle was pure nonsense... the front end would not stay on the ground... even at speed,
a little jerk of the throttle lifted the front into a rolling wheelie with no effort... I'll be removing some of the oil or reducing the punch a little, because there is just 'too much'
torque to handle :lol:



That's looking really nice Bondonutz, love what you've done with the can... how did you remove the anodizing? Oven cleaner?... Have you recorded temps?
what kind of setup are you using with that diff... at 23/48, those tyres should swell up real quick... Post some vids! :lol:

The tires are belted with Nylon packing tape and balanced so they dont swell and work Tits.

Ashamed to say but it's a Chinese knock off of Mikes Slipperential, I bought it from a buddy of mine who purchased it last year despite my protest. He couldn't get it to work for himself so I got it for next to nothing. Seems to work ok despite a real hassle to get it tuned to work decent. I know it my heart it's junk compared to Mikes, so how long it'll last is anyones guess ? A genuine RCM unit is on my wish list.

Temps have ben great despite the the gearing, 20-25* over ambiant is the most I've gotten out of it. I ran a 6s with the same gearing and made multiple speed passes and still was only able to get 139* after 10 minutes.

The anodizing was stripped with Aluminum wheel acid, disassemble the motor and dropped it in a glass with the acid and soaked it for 5 minutes. Came out clean a s a whistle. Rinsed and blew dry with compressed air and a liberal shot of WD40 and reassembled. The acid just gets poured back into the bottle to be reused again.

The 1520 is a great motor, wish I bought several rather than just one :oops:

Bondo, those are great temps! Remember i was running this motor in my 16-17lbs savage on 6s geared for 56mph! and only hitting 140-150 and that is all out for 15minutes till battery dies!

In a truggy i can see this geared for 65mph on 6s easily as they are a lot lighter than my savage!

I masked/sealed off the ends of the can with masking tape and created a seal with CA so NO or very little acid ever gets inside.

Hmmm... interesting approach on the stripping process... the temps look good too man... how much does that truggy weigh?

I have an alarm on the dx3s go off at 60C motor temp (which happens regularly in summer) and let it cool if it gets close to 70C. I don't know what the internal temps would be but Patrick says they are 200C magnets:rules::yipi:

Wow... that's a cool feature you got there... i will need to find something similar for my setup... 200c (392f) does sound a little high for internal temps...
what about the insulation coating on the wires, :oh: will it stand up to those temps?
