as far as durability the rampage has proven to be very durable. i have taken a couple of heinous spills and it didnt skip a beat. i have the Vertigo titanium turnbuckle kit since i heard the stock ones can bend .

i am just gonna play around with things and i am starting to feel not really concerned that i will see hot temps again. that day it got hot was when i was letting my 12yr old nephews drive it and they were making me nervous cuz their driving was not good. it was after they drove when temps were high. i had checked temps a few minutes previous to them when i was driving and temp on the motor was only 100*. so i am thinking that what happend is what aqwut said, that stopping and starting over and over and revving to top speed instantly builds up the most heat and i think thats what they were doing.

i am bidding on a baja currently for my next project. cant wait to convert the 5b. they look like a blast too. i want to build a nice 1/5 collection for myself.

I see and 100F is not even warm. Do you drive until the LVC kicks in?

I'm still waiting for a company that makes CF parts mainly for the military to let me know if they'll be able to do my parts. They told me they can make almost everything out of CF using their process and that got me interested.

Ryu-
Glad to see your truck is moving! (I was offline for a while.)

You said you were on grass when the temps were high Maybe all your runs were on grass, dunno, but I suspect the grass was the culprit. Any setup that is dialed on dirt or asphalt will usually run hot on grass. Even though it's a big powerful 5th scaler, grass is just rough on r/c stuff.

Kulang-
No offense here (just stating my opinion),but I hated the video. There were no "fluid video" shots. Just a slideshow. There is a bit of artistry when you add stills to video, in moderation. To me it seemed you tried to hard to make it a good video with all the stills, and should have left some of the meat and potatoes. Just my opinion. Either way I was happy to see the big guy in action, I just prefer real time video......

thanks man,
the truck has been a blast! it is fast and tough as nails. it leaps like no other RC i have. it just flies off the jumps. i still havent had a run til the LVC kicks in. i have run for as long as 35 min and never run the batts down yet. the temps are doing fine. i can get them up in the 135 range after about 20 minutes of running at the park but like you said off the grass it would probably always stay cool. the hotter temps are always when i am on the grass. i just thought because it was so big that the grass wouldnt affect it like it does my 1/8 stuff.
i still havent mounted the brakes. they are ready to go and everything i have just been lazy and have been having fun running it. in fact, that is one reason i run it on grass. it slows down much quicker so i have a lot more confidence to get it up to speed and not worry that i dont have brakes. i will post pics as soon as brakes go on.
i was going to do a baja for my next conversion but i have changed my mind. i am gonna save up and get the MCD EVO Ultimate and do a conversion. its gonna be sick and i cant wait. the MCD has an almost identical driveline the redcat so the gearing and motormount work i have done should work out fine. cant wait.
scroll down and check out the pics: http://innovativehobby.com/mcdraceru...r-instock.aspx

in regards to the video, Kulang did an amazing job with the content. i am guessing he had maybe 5 minutes of uninteresting footage and was able to make a 3 1/2 min vid that was pretty compelling. had we been able to actually film for an hour and get some good footage of course things would be better but i can assure you, had you been with us when we filmed for 5 minutes, you would be amazed too at the end result he produced.

_paralyzed_ 10.19.2009 03:57 AM

That evo is awesome. I like the 2 sided shock tower.

I hope kulangflow doesn't get offended, I just like the streaming vid.

I'm taking my ball and going home!

I'm not offended at all. I appreciate constructive advice. I even started a thread once asking for advice on improving my videos, but no-one really replied.

Just to clarify, when you say "stills" you're referring to the slow-mo sequences, right? There were only a few still shots at the very end, so I'm pretty sure they're not what you were referencing.

I was curious, so I did a quick breakdown of the video.

1:29-1:47 - Slow-mo
1:53-2:04 - Slow-mo
2:24-2:55 - Slow-mo
2:58-3:34 - Slideshow

So, that's 76 seconds of slow-mo/slideshow and 214 seconds of real-time fluid video.

Can you clarify what you meant by "...no "fluid video" shots. Just a slideshow..."? I wonder if some of the real-time video looked like slow-mo because you couldn't hear the motor pitch. The original video had the truck noise and a much better song timed to to the video, but YouTube killed it unfortunately.

Ryan and I will be filming a bunch more out at the golf course soon, so I'd really like to improve my next video of it. All advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Word.

Damn James. Im speechless! I just read this thread from page one. What a awesome build! Definitely my favorite build here yet! Im quite jealous:yes:

Wish I had the money to build something like that! I dont even want to know how much is into that build :oh:

I liked the yellow truck body the best. I think it looks more fitting. IMO. Probably takes a few gallons of paint to spray up a body huh?

Very very awesome! And I liked the video! Looks like it handles quite well!

And FC energy drink. You going to let some RCM members test it out?:na: Maybe some rc sponsorships?

thanks for making my day BlackedOut! i cant believe you went through the thread from page one??!! its a long thread. anyway, i liked the yellow body the best also but i was driving one night and it was a little cold and i went over on my lid softly and it just shattered. some of the stock redcat stuff is very cheap. i am working on a buggy body now that really hugs the chassis to keep dirt out. hopefully it holds up better.

as far as the energy drink my whole goal with it is to get is as big as possible but i really want to be involved with RC as much as i can with it. unfortunately there have been a lot of delays. we had our cans sent from cali to utah to be filled. they have sat there for 6 months now and we just kept getting strung along. i finally went down and pulled our cans from the place about a week ago and they are now being shipped to a very reputable plant in Portland, OR. we have been guaranteed production within the next 30 days. i would be happy to send samples to anyone wanting to try it. also, we will be doing a reseller type program so if you can land some accounts in your area you could make some money (interested parties please PM me or check the website. it will be updated once production is complete). RCM and Tekno will be getting a case for sure as soon as i have it but hit me up in 3 weeks and hopefully i can send you out a few.

_paralyzed_ 10.19.2009 08:43 PM

I rewatched the vid... The audio is seamless so I assume I'm seeing the video correctly?

To me most of the slow-mo seems "ratchety", that's why I called it a slideshow.

IMO a good vid would have 75% real time video and 25% slo-mo/stills/sweeps/what have you. Maybe 66.6/33.3 Definitely more actual truck noise. (frickin' youtube)

And according to many experts the average american attention span is about 3 min. I prefer about a 5 min. vid. I must be above average:neutral:

I want a 5th scaler bad, my current projects have me busy for about the next 3 yrs., maybe after that.....

I would definitely love to try some of the FC soda. I'm not much of an energy drink guy as most taste "powdery" to me, but I like giving new ones a try. :mdr:

Could be a nice thing to try and get it over to Brasil. The mascot for my soccer team is a Fighting Cock (Clube Atletico Mineiro). If the need comes, I have some great pics for my avatar, but the current one is for the team I played for and my grandfather was the treasurer for it.

A lot of people have suggested that our drink will be a hit with the latin culture. We may have a connection to get us into Mexico but its too early to know how solid it is. How many players are on your team? You think the guys would enjoy downing a Fighting Cock before killing your opponents in an upcoming game?

Here is the official website: http://www.atletico.com.br/ and here is some wiki info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clube_Atletico_Mineiro. My uncle knows one of the most famous players that played for them "Nelinho" and the stadium is only a few blocks away from where my uncle's house is. My uncle plays futsal with many retired Atletico players as well. Currently Atletico is in second place in the Brasilian National tournament and we have a player that plays for the national team. It's a perfect combination and it could well be the team's official drink. As it stands, Atletico have the most attendance of any Brasilian soccer team and sometimes over 75,000 people fills the stands. One of their current sponsor is one of the biggest construction companies in Brasil. What's your stock looking at the moment? This could be huge for you.

it hasnt seen much discussion in a while. i will post some updated pics and vids in the spring most likely. i sold my 2215 and plan to buy a 2220 and get the disc brakes on and then i will post some more vids. i just recently sold all my other conversions except this one. this thing has been the most fun rc i have ever had for sure. those baja shocks are just incredible!

what body is that?

truck looks like a blast, turned out great

suicideneil 12.08.2009 08:12 PM

Thats really rather beautiful

Ryu James 12.09.2009 02:06 PM

thanks guys. the body is the proline desert rat body for the baja 5b. its not the best looking but its much better than the stock body. unfortunately the 5t bodies are just too long to work on the rampage but this desert rat body fits pretty good. it makes the truck look much larger too.

thanks bro. my income has suffered big time with the changing economy. just threw it up on ebay, along with a bunch of other stuff recently. but i am far from out of large scale brushless. its all i plan to do in the future. in fact, i really just have my sights set on the MCD Evo 3 ultimate for a conversion maybe in the summer...i hope. but i will do a sweet conversion with the MCD at some point. check this out. just found this tonight by chance. its some nice work.

Hey, Ryu. I'm ordering a motor for my Baja 5T conversion. I saw your 1/5 truck on HBF (Nice!). I was wondering if the 2220 would fit in the 5T. Do you happen to remember the length of the motor?

P.S. Please get another build going soon. I love following your over the top project threads!

Depending on how you brace your chassis, and how your motor mount is set up, a 2220 should fit fine. I run a 2230 in my 5T.

Cool, billy. I've always heard that the 2230 was overkill and uncontrollable. Is that even slightly true?

Check my "HPI Bajas" Thread in general discussion. There are some pics of my buggy and truck in there. Think the BL truck is on the second page.

Overkill? yes, though my Bajas are not light-weight. Both of mine are over 30 pounds RTR. No "pointless" aluminum, like arms and stuff. But lots of things to make it stronger.

Uncontrollable? That would depend on your throttle finger.

Electric Eel 01.18.2010 02:33 PM

Thanks, billy. I really would like to know the size and setup of Mike's Baja conversion kit.

Are the specs finalized yet Mike? Any info at all to share? Please, I'm an RC BL junkie and I need a fix! I'm jonesin' bad!

Fighting Cock Energy Drink has arrived!

Hey All!
Fighting Cock Energy Drink has finally been produced and is available. I am just putting up this one post here cuz i know many of you have asked me about it and when it would be available. Please pm me if you have interest in trying it out. By next friday our site should be finished and you can go there for more info. Again just pm me with any questions.

Fast5sRevo88 02.25.2010 05:05 PM

Hey all, yall might have been wondering what happened to the Rampaja, well i just recently purchased it from Ryu and it will show up at my door anyday now. Unfortunately i caught it just days afterthe electronics sold, so i had to start over by orderign a 2217, Hydra hv 240, Neuengy 5s lipos, ccbecpro, and some connectors and such. I am very happy right now. I ask that mods keep this thread going because it will be updated by me in the following weeks or months, however long it takes for me to reassemble it to my likeing, and pics and questions are sure to be posted also.:intello:

_paralyzed_ 02.25.2010 06:36 PM

Damn man, I wish I had known. An ebay auction just went with all new cc hydra 240, cc bec pro, two 5s flightpower packs, a huge mega motor, two ib6 chargers w/ balancers and misc. all for $700 buy it now. All new.

Oh well, I'm glad the rampage went to an RCM member. I'm looking forward to the build!

Ryu James 02.25.2010 07:34 PM

Adios Amigo Rampage

yeah, my cc 240hv plus cc bec pro just sold for $310 like 3 days ago. just shipped it off. today is bittersweet. i am very sad to sell the rampage but sooo glad i can still see its progress here on the forum. seeing fast5srevo's post brought a big smile to my face. you are gonna have a blast with this truck. just getting everything setup to ship to fast5srevo has been fun. i just want to keep working on it and finish it now....damn!

_paralyzed_ 02.25.2010 08:51 PM

ups and downs ups and downs. A lesser man would still be dreaming in his garage, you sold your toys to pay bills. That's a real man. You'll be up again, hopefully soon:yes:

Fast5sRevo88 04.16.2010 02:48 PM

I purchased one of teh cc Bec pros for the rampage, Ryan was using the bec to power the radio and servos and a 2s lipo for the cooling fans. So my qustion is, can i power 3 40mm fans, the radio and 3 servos (HPI 5t servo, and 2 JR HVs) with just the CC BEC Pro which is rated at 20amps?

Fast5sRevo88 04.18.2010 12:23 PM

Anyone? Or do i need to continue this in a new thread cause this one is outdated?

Overdriven 04.18.2010 01:36 PM

If its rated for 20amps I'd say it can do it. Even in a big truck like that the servos won't draw more than 1 amp each (maybe 2 amp spikes), and each fan will be less than that. You might want to power the servos off the ccbec instead of the reciever though. 1/5th scale guys to this to lower the current going through the Rx, and to make sure the servos get full power. Only the white (usually) signal wire ends up going to the Rx. Glad to see the truck will end up running agin in its brushless glory.

Ryu James 04.22.2010 05:09 AM

hey Jayson, did you get the soldering figured out last week? let me know what you are up against and i will offer anything i can to help. cant wait to see it running.

Fast5sRevo88 04.22.2010 12:50 PM

Yea, a guy i know that comes into the lhs has a big mean soldering iron, like a power company grade one, he has some high amp airplane and heli setups that he has soldered some bac's on with it (bac- big ass connectors). And hopefully in another week my 2217 will be here:yipi:, If not i will give Castle a ring:wink:. Then maybe ican get connectors on it and then i will be ready to boogey with no brake cause i havent finished them yet:yipi::lol:.
