yea those stub axles are the first to go under power and the mip cvds arent worth the money as they break too. at least the stubbies with usually go back together after they come apart a couple times,

Nice! IMO 70 MPH is all the fastest I'd want my Rusty to go, it's just not stable enough and the drivetrain is so weak. I'd push something better designed and made for offroad use to 100 or so, one tiny mistake at that speed and your car is done though. My Hyper 7 TQ is setup for street use and currently I'm pushing about 50 MPH on 4s and it's fast enough that it doesn't turn very well (straight-line speed gets boring).

Have you looked into the HPI RS4 MT dogbone conversion? Snellemin runs this setup in his drag Rustler, I haven't had a major enough failure to justify the investment but I'm looking at doing the conversion when my steel U-joints finally let go. My Jato shafts are already ovalling the holes, I've got slop in my steel outputs, and I go through a stub axle every month or two right now. I wish Traxxas would re-design the entire drivetrain of the Rustler :diablo:

Those dogbones aren't totally bulletproof ya know. I've had them in my Rustler for at least 3 years now, and have done everything to them. They have been flung out, bent, had a ball end sheared off, and the cups are showing quite a bit of wear. BUT in my experience the dogbone conversion will hold up better than the stock driveline.

Yeah, nothing can stand up forever. I just get tired of replacing my stub axles all the time. My Jato shafts have about 2 years on them, which is surprising, but still ovalling pretty bad (I guess $4/year for driveshafts isn't so bad...). My $20 steel output yokes are the biggest letdown, they're made out of some of the worst steel I've ever seen and started showing signs of wear within a few months.

I'd love to see Mike come out with some CVAs for the Rustler/Stampede/Bandit as well as Slash. CVD at the wheel and dogbones at the tranny and made out of some proper steel and we'd finally have something that holds up to the kind of power we put to these things. The next thing I would like to see is a tougher diff (sealed would be nice, too). After that change the internal gears to 32p or at least something tougher than the 48s, they hold up well for a while but I've stripped teeth before. Again, better metal would be a nice improvement as well.

The FLM ones have stood up to lots of abuse - Castle Nue 2200 on 4s etc with no signs of wear...

Q. Does every vehicle in USA have an automatic transmission? Why is that? I would guess its simply because most of the roads are long and straight, so no skill is required with regards to shifting up and down at the correct time. Ofcourse, saying something like that might cause a heated debate... :mdr:
