site, down. i get the page cannot be displayed message

BrianG 01.21.2009 11:17 PM

Yeah, I contacted my host and they said the whole server (I used a shared server setup) is down but the admins already knew about it. Must be really bad to be down this long.

Until the site is back up, you can download the site as a ZIP file, unzip it to a folder of your choice, and run "index.html". See attached zip file.

DwightSchrute 01.23.2009 12:23 AM

Brian, i downloaded your speed site files, and i still can't get the right diagram i'm looking for. can you provide me a diagram for 3 series lipo wiring? (in otherwards making (3) lipos into a 9S.

thanks

BrianG 01.23.2009 12:33 AM

Go to the "Lipo Pack Wiring" page, scroll down a bit to the middle section, and select "Use 3 series-connected battery packs" option.

DwightSchrute 01.23.2009 12:51 AM

they won't come up for me...i just get broken picture links after i select the option

EDIT: please feel free to delete, someone posted a diagram for me. Thank you.

- Noted the pitch for the CEN Matrix is Mod1

Ok, that's it for a couple more months.

Why did you delete the "Drag-Adjusted Vehicle Speed" portion of the speed calc?

I only see "Theoretical Maximum Vehicle Speed".

Yeah, I gotta fix that. You must be using something other than Internet Explorer. I sometimes use the wrong slash ( \ instead of / or vice-versa) when coding and IE doesn't mind, but Firefox, Opera, etc doesn't like it. IE is just more forgiving...

I removed it because it's kinda useless. At high speed, ANY changes in body shape and other areas affects drag considerably. It sort of took an average drag estimate to compensate for the various setups, but it wasn't near accurate.

Unsullied_Spy 01.23.2009 11:07 AM

Will you be adding in the transmission ratio and such for a HPI Baja 5B/5T? There are people doing conversions now and it could become more popular and it'd be nice to include them in the speed calc.

BrianG 01.23.2009 11:09 AM

Sure, what are the gear tooth counts? I add whatever information people provide.

Unsullied_Spy 01.23.2009 11:15 AM

Baja 5T:
19T Top Gear
30T Idler
48T Diff

Baja 5B:
20T Top Gear
30T Idler
48T Diff

EDIT: Stock spur gear is 57T, I believe the pinion on the CB is 17T.

EDIT AGAIN: Stock Dirtbuster tire diameter: 6.6875", Baja Badlands: 6.88", Desert Buster Arrow (5T stock wheel): 7.5"

BrianG 01.23.2009 11:29 AM

Added Losi Muggy diff ratio. Also added diff/tranny ratios and spur gear for HPI Baja 5B/T.

Updates will be uploaded when the site comes back...

Unsullied_Spy 01.23.2009 11:31 AM

Thanks on both parts. I kept having to put in the Muggy ratio manually (I guess I should have dropped a message.)

BrianG 01.23.2009 11:33 AM

It's ok, someone posted the Muggy ratio several posts back...

Looks like we might have a permissions problem on the server?

BrianG 01.23.2009 12:47 PM

No, I think they are restoring things again and that's just temporary. Yesterday, you would get a "Page cannot be displayed" error message, so there is progress.

RC-Monster Mike 01.23.2009 12:48 PM

I can host this page on my server if needed, Brian. :)

BrianG 01.23.2009 12:53 PM

lol, I thought of that, but figured you had enough traffic. I already have access to a "certain directory" anyway, but wouldn't want people to poke around trying see what else is in there.

But, if you don't mind, you could create an "rc_calc" directory on there, and give me ftp access. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have a mirror of the site somewhere. Thanks for the offer!

BrianG 01.23.2009 05:01 PM

BTW: The site seems to be back up now.

I also uploaded today's updates...

BrianG 01.25.2009 05:20 PM

Update:

Added shock dimension table, and a few of the shocks that I have in my parts bin. Hopefully useful for those doing custom jobs and need to know what fits...

doo540 01.26.2009 07:24 AM

Brian I think something is wrong with the gear ratio's for the HPI 5B and 5T, its telling me the ratio is .4...... which gives me a top speed of 360 mph I knew it was going to be fast but....... lol
Also I cant confirm it yet, but I was under the impression that the 5B and 5T were using the same tranny and gears. I will ask on the Baja forum to make sure.
Many thanks for adding the Baja data.

BrianG 01.26.2009 11:10 AM

lol, yeah, the ratio is messed up. It should be ~2.4. I swapped the input and output gears around.

Just take the reciprocal of the current ratio of 0.4167, which gives you the correct ratio of 2.3998080153587712982961363090953. Yeah, you can round that to 2.39981 if you want.

And if the ratio is different for the B vs the T, let me know. I add what people tell me and I assume they are correct.

It is different. I posted the gear sizes for both a few pages back. IIRC the top gear on the B is 20T and the T is 19T. I checked HPI's website to be sure.

BrianG 01.26.2009 01:33 PM

Uploaded update.

Fixed error with HPI Baja 5T/B tranny ratios.

Added Baja 5B/T tire sizes.

Added nitro 4-tec tranny and diff ratios.

BrianG 02.01.2009 12:45 AM

Something interesting... or at least I think so.

Don't know if I saying it correctly.

For example you would put all the info in for your RC on the est speed calc. Then instead of needing to go back and changing the pinion size from 10, 11, 12, etc. to see the different speed you would get. You could hit a button and it could display a table or something with the different speed you'd get for say a 10T - 20T pinion. It be cool then to go back and change the spur gear and see what the table would put out using the same pinions. Even on the reverse side say it would pump out the size pinion for estimated speeds of 30, 35, 45, 50, etc.

What do you think?

For some reason, I was downstairs thinking about how I was gonna make LST2 shocks fit my XT8 and the solution to this request hit me. I wasn't even thinking of anything close to this, but all of a sudden I remembered this request and an easy way to implement it. Weird.

Anyway, I added "speed vs pinion" feature to the top speed estimator page. After calculating the top speed, a gear icon will appear next to the estimated speed field. Clicking that will open a help window showing the speeds for different pinions.

What's_nitro? 02.01.2009 03:10 AM

Great idea. Congrats on your "exposure"! Now how do you make money from that??? :mdr:

Hey Brian,
Any chance you could update the Flux tranny ratios in the calc? Here is JThiessen's scan of the manual w/ the new gears

Great idea on the on the spd vs pinion. Its really nice to just look at the ranges instead of having to re-select the pinion. One thing tho, perhaps could the list read down the column instead of L->R? Just makes it a bit tougher to read. No biggie.

Also, couple other little things. The Sav XL spur, 52T iirc, Flux is 44. Lastly, regarding the Cen diffs. The genesis/nemesis and matrix all use the same diff. People may or may not know that. Don't need to update the name, but eh, some of the others are multiply named.
good job as always!

BrianG 02.20.2009 07:36 PM

OK, I changed the order in the speed vs pinion table. Critics!

I'll take a look at the Flux tranny diagrams sometime soon.

As far as the other diffs, etc is concerned: To be totally clear, post the model and the tooth counts of the diffs and I'll add them.

BrianG 02.21.2009 01:17 PM

Ok, I added the diff for the HPI Flux, but am having a little trouble deciphering the tranny. I've attached the PDF excerpt from the manual showing the tranny.

86087 looks like the input gear, but there are two which is common for two-speed trans. Then I see the output shaft with one gear (86098), simple enough. But then I see what I think is the idler shaft with only two gears on it (100905 & 86084). If this is two speed tranny, where is the intermediate gear on the idler shaft (the one that contacts the output gear)? If this is a single speed tranny, where is there a dual input gear and two output gears? It looks like maybe this is a single speed tranny that is set up for future dual speed use. So, until this is cleared up, I'm not going to include the Flux tranny.

Jabe 02.21.2009 02:07 PM

I got idea, for your site, make "battery finder", so you can find perfect batterys for your car.
So you shoud have these filtering options, widht, height, lenght, weight, battery capacity in mAh, constant current, brust current, voltage, saddlepack or not.

BrianG 02.21.2009 02:17 PM

Thanks for the suggestion! I had thought about that a while back while using a similar tool at another site, but it was not implemented well. I'm sure I could do a much better job.

lincpimp 02.21.2009 11:35 PM

Hey Brian, here is the info on the flux...

http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...d=1#post263911

lincpimp 02.23.2009 08:09 PM

Hey Brian, you have the incorrect ratio listed for the savage trans...

Well it is not correct for the X model...

The output gear is 29t, p/n 86098

And the gear that drives the output gear, on the center shaft is 32t, p/n 86084

So that ratio is 32/29, so 0.90625

You have 30/31 listed for the secondary reduction (which is actually not a reduction in the x tranny)

Now the 1st and 2nd ratios look to be correct, but I checked anyways.

Input gear cluster, p/n 86097, is listed as 18-23t. The 1st and 2nd gear "spurs", p/n 76914 & 76924, are 44t and 39t repectively. So that looks good.

So 1st is 18/44 and 32/29 so 2.444 x .906 = 2.214
2nd is 23/39 and 32/29 so 1.695 x .906 = 1.535

Those figures are rounded, and I know your program does not round the same. But you get the idea.

Are the figures you listed for the original savage 25 tranny? I will have to pull up a manual to see...

Just checked the savage 21 manual and it is identical, save for a different number for the 39t gear... Same ratios though

BrianG 02.23.2009 08:46 PM

Since I rely on submitted data for much of the ratios listed, I ptobably got the incrorrect info from someone, or just made bad assumption(s). Sometime soon, I will sit down and compile a list of changes for the next update.

Sounds good, the speed calc is an invaluable tool, that is for sure. Thanks for keeping it current!

BL-Power 03.01.2009 09:06 AM

Hey Brian, the Proline Switch tires i am using on my Slash have got a diameter of 4.3". It would be nice if you could add them to the Proline 2.2 Rim section when you do the next update.

coolhandcountry 03.01.2009 10:06 AM

What about the 3 speed trans by savage? ;)

Arrg! All those numbers. Let me paraphrase:

The savage X tranny has a 29T output gear on an 32T idler for a 0.90625:1 ratio. Then, there is no 30/31 gear set in the savage X. But, the first/second gear cluster is correct. Is this right?

As far as the flux goes, what is the correct ratio? There are a couple threads and I don't feel like comparing them to get the right gear tooth counts. I saw the scan someone posted, but it really doesn't tell me anything.

And for the 3-speed savage tranny, post the gears and I'll do my best.

I could not find any savage tranny that has 30/31 gears in it. Correct ratio is .90625:1. Yourr 1st and 2nd gear cluster numbers are correct.
