I think we can read Chris' statements just for what they say (as I think he means them to be read w/o having to say too much.) They do the job. They aren't cheap. 'Bout the same as Turnigies. Says quite a lot imo. Graphs are a bit different on the discharges. 1st one shows a 3.75v/cell @20C 2nd shows 3.5v @ 27C. Also starts 1V lower I'm hoping the 2nd set is Turnigies. Both are a long way off from 150C. 1st set looks maybe 40Cish 2nd, 30C seems fair Edit: Chris's comment below. All graphs are MA. >_< |

Unfortunately it snowed last night so a comparison set of charts is off for at least 2 weeks... |
I'm on travel so I can't post the graphs but I'm seeing spikes above 200A consistently. I'm running a 5T (many aluminum goodies) with Thunder Power 50C batteries.
One question I did have was the sample rate, I assume all of the samples are point in time so the system simply does a read on the tick it should. I set the rate at the highest (100ms) to make sure I had the greatest chance of catching things but even paring down the values recorded still only results in ~8m of log time. Based on my work on programmable circuits I assume it's done this way given basic constructs however I wanted to mention it in case I'm off base. |
I'll bring this thread back once again with this link to a thread I started on the Baja forum regarding ripple voltage data:
http://www.hpibajaforum.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=103238 Note that tuclai reports 12% maximum ripple voltage from a certain set of batteries. |
Looks like your friend tuclai is in need of some 200C or better batteries. Give them another couple months and I'm sure they will have them out.
|
Unbelievable
As unbelievable as things are with the way MA is trying to portray these "True 150C" Lipos I would not be at all surprized if next year they come out with an ad that shows a new set of Lipos that not only provide 200C continuous, but that if you stare at them long enough they will charge themselves without a charger. And on top of that it would be the same exact cells wraped in a new color flamed package. I am flabergasted to see the outright false advertising, disrespect to its customers, and poor business sense of this company, and even more so that everyone is buying their BS. If any of the major auto makers did this kind of advertising for one of their new Green cars there would be a major class action lawsute being shown on the 6 oclock news. The gaul of some people just amazes me. Not to mention the ignorance of others who would pay these prices for them, when we all know that you are able to purchase better quality cells for less.
|
Hmmm, still hoping to see a side by side data log with some Turnigy lipo's.
Maybe the snow has melted? |

So what ever happened to Brandon? He hasnt logged in for over 3 months. If I had the balls I would just walk over to MA and ask them whats up.

So I saw MaxAmps over at RCX earlier today, forgot to get pictures but they were offering more gimmicks there. Free massages!! I guess people that buy MaxAmps packs need some stress relief when they blow up?
Forgot to get pictures, I wanted to call them out about their 150c rating but I decided why bother.. |
Don't worry I will be there tomorrow and will grill them about their, well everything. Let's see if they have any real data at all to confirm this ludacris claim of 150c. We all know that it's bs but let's see what they come up with. Maybe I will film the conversation just to prove a point. Not expecting a good response but I don't care. Lord knows I'm a dick when I wanna be and they screwed me in the past like they have done to so many others so you could say they have it coming.
|
Pretend to be from an RC magazine, and ask them loads of questions you know they wont be able to answer, like what the actual continuous rating is on their 150c batts ( its 75c, 150c burst ), what voltage the cells hold at 75c current draw ( any size pack- smaller mah capacity is easier to test ), what their warranty stance is ( they claim using lipos in r/c is experimental so no warranty is offered, but then they also offer you a warranty which is pretty crappy ), ask them about the lack of discharge graphes to prove their performance claims and ask them about their state-of-the-art facility where they assemble the packs
I'd also show them a graph of the lipos holding 3.75v @ 22.5c discharge and query how they could possibly be labled as 75c packs since the voltage would drop way below 3.0v per cell. Also definitely make sure you ask them how any of their cells can output 150c for 3 minutes when they would be flat within 24 seconds: Quote:

Maybe I'm wrong. Patrick is smart enough to do that kinda math in his head, but it makes me wonder. |
Is Jason giving the massages?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA WOOOOOOOHHHHHOOOHHHH!!!!! I can just see him, hands all over some pimply faced rc crazed kid. Telling him how great he is, and that all of their lipos are still outperforming the competition, and how MA is only the best becuase He works there. |
Oh don't worry fellas I got some zingers for em. I could sell stink to s@*t if I wanted so I don't think it will be to hard to fain interest and apeal to their vanity a bit before I ramrod em. It's east to bs on a keyboard and be a toughguy but things are different in person. Mostly I'm hoping for a large crowd to hear the conversation and really open their eyes as to what these people are doing and expose the lies. I mean it's up to people to buy what they want but that's no excuse to take advantage of the rampid ignorance of mankind now is it? All in all I'm more excited about everything else at the show but this is kind of like the cherry on top. I get to harass someone while I'm there!

This is going to be gteat.
This is going to be a great experience to share with everyone just like the bully beat down. Staying calm and not letting them get you all worked up. As long as you stay calm and under control there is not much they can do to get rid of you or ignore your questions. If it works well then others will join in on your side and demand answers as well. If a few guys in here can join together and show up there tomorrow that would be even better. Either way it would be nice to see and here what happens on video so we can all share in the laughter. Good luck with your assignment 007.

Found Wilcox, but no graphs
All i can say is wow........
First off i thought long and hard on how to aproach MA and decided since i had my wife and kids with me i would play dumb and see how much info they would really tell me or actually had. Really just wanted to punch Mr. Wilcox square in the face but I resisted...... somehow:lol: Their table was covered with pages from car action (big suprise) and all the bs "awards" they had received. The whole convesation was centered around his favorite quote, "if you want the best money can buy this is it", riiiggghhhtt....... I asked him straight up, where did you get this rating of 150c from? Was it from your own testing or from the manufacture? His reply was "Oh we have done extensive testing, we have this guy that goes to china...." wow all i have to do is send a guy to china and bam! 150c. He went on and on about how superior their packs were over enderland and thunderpower and the like, and how crappy the turnigy cells were! Ha Ha Ha what it felt like to me was "stop buying all our cells from turnigy so we can sell em as 150c. Honestly i looked at the MA cells and they bear a striking resemblance to the turnigy cells but thats a whole nother can of worms.... He was touting how their cells are all hand soldered for lower resistance and just the best of the best. I seriously doubt that soldering them in his garage yeilds any benifit in resistance but who the hell am i? This guy was so insulting to my intelligance i had to just walk away. It was like he thought I was an absolute moron. Granted if you buy into all their crap you are in my opinion, but there was no proof or even basic knowledge of electricity from what i gathered while speaking to him. Pretty much what i expected from the encounter but no biggie. The packs laying on the table were put together pretty shitty even for my standards. Where the wires exited was dremeled out rough with no uniformity and the hardcases were already coming apart. The fact that these guys do business this way makes me sick. Even worse they are doing well which means people actually believe the crap that comes out of their mouths. I dont know about everyone else but just cause someone says something doesnt mean didly to me. If these packs are so great, how come i never see them at the track? How come they are not winning any national or world titles? Whatever, i told him i raced and what classes and so on. His immediate response was "you need this four cell for your buggy" Itold him i run six cell and he was like "oh thats way too many cells dude" What? really? according to who or what? Sorry i didnt bring home the bacon and have some graph doodle on a napkin but like i said i was resisting violence having someone speak to me like i wouldnt know my ass from a hole in the ground. Basicly he said alot, repeated himself alot and none of it meant shit to me. Oh and for the record I wish you guys could have seen his face when i told him the best packs i have ever used were three year old turnigy's. he was lookin at me like i was cletus the slack jawed yokel. |
Just imagine how many C they could put on their packs if they sent someone to the moon!
|
Ha ha ha..... These are the ways we test batteries now? They seem to be forgetting the fact that there are only a few places on the planet to get these cells. Kinda throwing it in our face that they think they are so much smarter than us by saying the same cells are better cause the sticker is cooler and has flames and a big number on it.
|
Come on now, you are forgetting the most important thing...... they send... a guy..... to China. That's got to be worth something right?
|
Not unless that guy is sir issac newton himself or even einstien, someone who isn't full of crap and can actually verify these cells capabilities. Honestly I don't really care all that much about a c rating. Just buy the highest avalible for the packs I want but it's a bit ludicrous to have double the rest of the market all the sudden. Maybee the garage has some special abilty to increase the c rating I don't know. Just sucks that these guys think so little of the customers that keep their business going that they will lie to their face to make a buck.
|
What you do not know
You guys are being a little bit mean. I am offended, because what you do not know is that in that tiny little garage (I mean factory) they have acquired the only flux capacitor from the movie set of "Back To The Future" and are using it to give their packs their initial charge, giving thier packs a "TRUE 150C" rating. See if you were as smart as they are, then you would have known this. This is why they have a blue flame sticker shrunk onto these packs, because it matches the flames that appear when the Delorian goes back to the future. See if you really understand the facts, then you get the reasoning behind the ratings. Get the fact gentlemen, get the facts. So hurry up now and go purchase MA packs and you to will be the collest cat in R/C racing. And probably get your a$$ handed to you at the track by some 12 year old kid using Turnegy packs. ha ha ha ha ha ha.
See you guys are just stupid. Brandon Cox said so, and he's cool to. Oh and that guy they sent to China could not understand a word of Chinese, but from what he could gather they were trying to tell him that these are the best cells on the planet. Once again guys get your facts right. |
I think I should buy some generic cells from China. I will send my brother there who is a pilot and knows nothing about batteries in general. I will get him to buy the cheapest cells that they have and ship them back to me. Then I will put Holographic stereogram flames on the side of the pack with big bold TRUE 300C written on there two. Don't forget the sooper dooper 12awg wires and Deans connectors which will handle these kind of discharges with ease. Throw in a few more gimmicks such as waterproof and able to survive a nuclear holocaust (even though you wont). That ought to do it me thinks. Should be able to steal most of their customers from them and become filthy rich. If only I had no sense of morals or dignity and had no trouble stealing peoples hard earned.........

Ya know

What do you guys mean? I have a ton of ma cells already, they just have blue shrinkwrap on them and are reasonably priced. Plus they have bigger wire so they are better right?

A bit much for sure.
Yea that is a bit much for sure just to get a table for two or three days at an R/C promotion event. Gheeze what a ripoff. Yet another example of greed in our hobby.
But man wouldn't that be cool to set up a table next store to MA at one of these huge events, and have real graphs showing the difference between the MA cells and other manufacturers. Plus having open Lipo cells for the world to see just what MA are trying to sell to everyone for higher prices knowing all well that they are the same or inferior cells that some of the other suppliers are using. As stated most if not all of these Lipo cells are coming out of China. So how in the world can the cells MA is using be any better than anyone elses cells? Then on top of that have some kind of test bench setup like they do at The Home Depot to compare drill batteries for overall power, peak performance, and longevity of a single charge. At the very least it would prove that MA cells are no better than any other cells. More than likely it would show that MA packs are poor in performance and not worth the extra $$$ that they are charging for their packs, unless you think that the cutesie $2 flame wrap is worth about $100. Along with all of this I have yet to read one really good example of their advertised warranty that turned out in a positive manner. Not when you stack that against all of the bad stories we have read about Puffed and dead cells right out of the box or within the first one or two runs, and how they refuse to cover it. MA is obviously no better than any of the ripoff artists on Ebay who collect payment from people and then ship out boxes that are either empty or full of junk. You know there is a problem when a company sells a product, and then has one of their own employees as a controlling entity on a national magazine that advertises their products. That is just a pure conflict of interest, and should be avoided. Anyone who believes that kind of BS needs to rethink their perspective. That would be no better than having lets say Ford rebadge a 4 cylinder Toyota, and then also have one of their Executives owning Road & Track magazine where they rave about this new 500hp product they have come out with. What MA is doing is no better than taking a Yugo, replacing the body with a look alike Corvette body and trying to sell it as an original Yugo high performance product. It really is pathetic when you examine the whole idea and compare what they have to offer over anyone else in the Lipo business. Its all smoke and mirrors. |
I( went to RCX show in Pomona, thast saturday, saw MA's booth, gotta tell you everytime i went by they were just sitting there, didn't appear they had many people inerested in their product.Great show thou CC and RC4WD had some great looking stuff on display

Like the members here, the folks at RCGroups didn't fall for the BS either :
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1434306 |
just thinking out loud here...
what is the resistance of Xin of 12g wire + deans plug? if it is over .02 ohm, then any "claimed" rating over 500amps is lying... 7.4v x 500amps = .015 ohm |
Kind of off topic, but did you see how much they are charging for sub-c cells? 10 bucks each! They are charging 10 bucks for a dead technology! I dont even think sub-c cells went for that much when that was all there was. But then again these sub-c cells have fancy flames on them! I wonder what they really are? Sanyo? Panasonic? The crappy cardboard wrapped ones with a MA shrinkwrap job? My bet is the latter. I wonder why they dont sell their lipo cells individually?
|
They used to sell individual lipo cells but it would give away the fact now that they are using the "b" grade turnigy cells in their 150c super packs! That's why we only got a 12c graph and they sucked at that discharge rate.
|
Quote:
The Graph, the Maxamps Lipo sucked at, was less than 8C. There's no way to know what they are putting inside the hardcase packing that are being sent to market. One thing is for sure though, I'm not curious enough, only to be disappointed, and give them any of my money. Maximum RIPOFF! |
No worries dude I though I was being a liitle generous with the rating to but for the advertised rating it was close enough for me. I dealt with their packs once years ago and that was enough for me. Run 90% turnigy packs now not that I'm proud of it to support them being from china but it's cost effective and they perfom well so that leaves me more cash for cc products!
|
I read through the rcgroups postings and Brandon defends the C ratings that Maxamps posts. Its a shame to see him do that after we have explained what they mean and he probably now must realize that the batteries they sell for numerous reasons cant put out the current levels that they claim. At first I thought about giving him the benefit of the doubt and thought he just didnt understand what they meant, but it seems like he does know what he is doing.
Lets face it, if they posted 8C ratings then they wouldnt sell any batteries at all. All they have is their marketing that keeps them going. |

oooohhhh..... so it was bs ;) |
Oooooh...............
So this is why Maxamps didn't want to publish any real world testing against the competition! |
