The fans on my motor give me more than 10 degrees celsius advantage. Even more, I think.

It only cools one side of the motor, but heat is conductive. Some smart guy once told me: Daf, if you heat a piece of metal on one end, it gets hot on the other, too.

Getting rid of heat is a good idea, but it's even better to choose a setup that's not too "close on the border".

I prolly should get a temp gun first, but i'm a bit low on fund's right now. But if you drive your truck very hard, like constant speed run's, you will eventually get the motor to overheat. allthough I don't usually drive like that, I want to be on the safe side.

Actually, I CAN run my truck very hard. Even on big tracks it wont get in the dangerous temp regime with proper gearing.

Speed? I can't complain.
I gear my Revo for 35mph or 40mph on 14 cells. And that's plenty for me.

I just came back from a test run, all in the name of science:
On my lawn (not the shortest grass) with 1:18 reduction, plenty of full speed passes, I ended up with 140 degrees farenheit after a full run.
Amazing, IMHO. It's all about efficiency and proper gearing.

i looked at mike's heatsink and i KNOW i found a fourm where the size is located but i cant seem to find it again. The C50 is 43.2 mm diameter, which includes the already built in heatsink. which leads me to my next question

Which is better, a heatsink on the motor or a fan? on my stock emaxx i have heatsinks... i think they are trinity...
and on my 7 cell one i have a gigantic fan.

Mark, I'm running a 1:18 reduction on this truck. (7XL, stock tires, 14 cells)

1:18 overall = 18/66

17/72 w/ ue 8 spyder's. And I got a set of 40 serie's, not tested them yet.

I hear you Sneeck, about the temp difference when you cool it on one side.. BUT.. the material it's cooling (copper with flexible isolation and aluminum) is rather soft, so it can easely withstand a difference in temperature.

Daf, a bit of an idiot question here, but you have the fans on both the motor and controller aimed so that they blow air DOWN onto the surface, correct? I had zero luck a while back trying to make an exhaust fan for my Novak SS in my Pede (stupid thing LOVED to overheat), but I'm guessing ramming air down onto it would be better. :)

I think I'll try this in both my Ofna 9.5 and T2, the 7018 in the T2 likes to run hot anyway.

it needs to blow, not suck.. vacume air can transfer less heat than compressed.

So.......pointed DOWN with the airflow going onto the controller's heat sinks, correct?
