I have a 7XL.. Get about 10 minute of solid running on it before it reaches such extreme temps I have to shut it down. Tried all kinds of gearing up/down, doesn’t matter, that sucker wants to run 200F degrees everytime. I hate it… Junk if you ask me, not to mention all the failure threads with them. Guess that’s what you get for $60 bucks. I just received a Neu motor (for another rig), hopefully better luck with it..

The Fieago has all kinds of crazy power but simply won't run cool. I foresee a magnet, or bell, or shaft failure in my very near future. One of these days I'll just get pissed and run it until it's embers...

hmm well what do you recomment i get, its only a 1/10 scale buggy. would an L size motor work better, i only used a Xl because i had it laying around. Any recommendations on a new motor?

Note my comments were regarding a heavier Maxx truck. The only way I could see a 7XL running cooler is either with a voltage that ran less RPM’s and/or much lighter weight rig, although I’m no expert on the subject.

As for light buggy motors, I just bought a Neu 1512/2.5D/F for my Hyper-7. Should run great on 4S, and hopefully nice & cool :intello:

hey xcntrk, u shut it down after 10 mins of heavy bashing or even when ur not running it hard?

xcntrk 04.21.2008 09:25 PM

10 min of bashing, so that’s lots of WOT, heavy braking, part-throttle, and slow or down time. Not nearly as aggressive as racing, but giving it a good run. It’s just the wrong motor for my setup and ranges from 200F geared low to 220F+ geared higher….bummer…

PS: want to buy a 7XL with only a few runs on it

Same thing happened with my finned 7xl. Obviously the quality is sub par.

Feigao's are fine motors for what they are. People just ask too much from an inexpensive motor when they toss a low turn version in a heavy truck and expect it to perform. It overheats, explodes, and then it's considered "sub par". Of course it's sub par, it's sub $100. If you use a proper KV for your setup so reasonable gearing can be used to reach a decent top speed, then they do quite well.

That's my 2c anyway. I grenaded the crap out of an 8xl. Not a pretty sight. There are plenty of better motors out there for just a bit more cash if you want to shoot for crazy speed. I just don't feel like a 6xl or 7xl is the choice for high speeds in a truck like Revo, or larger. If the vehicle is that big, and you need to go faster than an 8 or 9xl, then it may be time to drop on a more expensive motor.
