is this because the 7xl has more torque than say a 9l? what about a 9xl? then I wonder if an 8xl would be better all around? (between the 7 and 9?)
too bad I dont know somebody with these motors so I could see first hand the power/torque and efficiency. |
Well, if u go for the 8xl or 9xl, u'll need more batts to make up for the lost rpm. U'll probbably loose some overall speed to. Stick with 7xl. We might not have people here that has a 8xl or 9xl. But we got the best mods that will help anyway they can...as long as u buy form Mike, lol j/p!

Coolhand has got the 9XL (or was it the 8XL, i thought it was the 9XL) and he is very enthusiastic about it. Long runtimes and it stays cool as well. If you are planning on staying in the 12-16 cell range, stick with the 7XL and for a 18-20 cell setup go for the 8XL
The kv ratings Feigao shows are for an unloaded motor. |
alright ya I plan to run 12-14, with the rare running of 3 - 6 cell packs for 18 cell madness :)
Looks like hte 7xl is the one to get. |
I have run the 9xl with 14-18 cells. It does well with all. I think it is a little smoother than the 7xl. I had a 7xl as well. The 9xl has more run too. I do some curb climbing as well as a few hills. I also do a few speed runs. I can get 30 minutes of hard bashing country style. I only got about 10-15 out the 7xl with same batteries. The I can stick 12 cells on mine and tell you what kind of run time and speed with what gear if you like. It is no biggy.

^^ That would be VERY much appreciated. Do you run 3300s, or other cells? Also, is this on an E? what does it weigh and what tires do you run?
For the price I can get 6 cell packs, it would be awesome to be able to run those and have decent power and run times. When you "hard bash country style" lol is this just a mix of full throttle blasts and messing around without stopping? I would LOVE to get 30 minutes of pretty hard bashing on 12-14 cells, but still have good power and smoothness. was ur 30 minutes on 18 cells? I suppose if running on 12 cells really sucks, I could always run 3 6 cell packs, but I do prefer to keep the weight down. Also, where did you get the 9xl? Anybody know if mike can get them? I am interested to know if it is like brushed esc's, where you can run less cells and get better run time. I used to run 6 and 7 cells on my 540 brushed motors, and the 7 cells added a nice bit of performance, but at the cost of slightly less run time. Hopefully the 9xl can still get up and go pretty well on 12 cells and not have a flat lazy like performance. |
the Hv-maxx only draws 30 amps right?.....

I will have to do the test on gp 3300. I found some info on another site to.
5XL 6-10 cells 6XL 8-12 cells 7XL 10-16 cells 8XL 12-18 cells 9XL 12-18 cells 10XL 12-20 cells 11XL 18-24 cells 12XL 18-28 cells 13XL 18-32 cells 14XL 24-32 cells My truck is a little heavy. about 14 lbs ready to run with 18 cells. Yes it was with 18 cell of gp 3700. about 25 min with 3300. I run dirt hawgs with ue rears 2 speed tranny. I have the gmaxx double extended. Mike can get you the 8 or 9xl. It will be the wanderer series by bk. same as feigao with better bearings. I will have to charge batteries up and get back to you on the run time. Batteries are charging now. HEre is the thread on my truck. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...5&pagenumber=1 |
with gp 3300 that have set 4 weeks. Charged them up only took 2384 on one pack and 2465 on the other. Discharged them before chargeing them to. start time was 7:43 stop time was 7:59. Speed was about like the hv maxx with alot more power. I hope this helps roost. I not trying to tell you to get the 9xl. I just think it works better on crawling aspect. That was speed run with donuts and all.

16 mins dosnt seem too shabby on packs that were about 2500mah or so?. so speed was probably 30-35?
Now I dont know if I should go with the 7xl or 9xl? What kind of power difference was there between the 7xl and 9xl on the same cell count? If the power is similar, I am definately digging the extra 15 or so minutes extra run time you got (how many cells were you running on each, 18?) This also makes me think, what about the 8xl? wouldnt that be between the 7 and 9? lol. Decisions decisions! |
I can get any of these motors(in fact,I have them already ordered). Truthfully, I think you will be happy with any of them. the 7xl is probably more suited to 12 cells, but any of the motors can be geared to perform quite well. You won't see the run time country got with 18 cells if you only run 12-he simply has 1.5 times the power supply so will therefore get more runtime. For 12 cells, the 7xl is probably the best choice.
|
The overall power will be the same, because you would be using the same cells. But, you would have to compensate for the 9XL's lower kv to get it to run as fast as the 7XL. The 8XL should be a good motor for the -n-between. Better runtime than the 7XL, but faster than the 9XL.
|
Well what really intrigued me was the 25-30+ minute run times!
I really REALLY like my packs to last, as I hate changing packs. Would the reason to get more runtime with more cells, be that you just have MORE power, so you are not using the maxixmum power as often? I would really like to be able to run these 6 cell packs, but I think running 3 of them for 18 cells might be a bit much, both on the power aspect, and on the weight aspect. I never thought it would be this hard to pick a darn motor! |
Hey, roost.. Just buy'em all....
saves you the hassle of regret... :) |
