Yes, it should run cooler and have more torque than the 5700.

my 9L on 3s is geared for 48mph and easily runs aways from nitros (i geared up from my original plans of 40 to lower the motor heat) and i have no problems with neither the mm or motor neither see over 140 even after 45 mins of straight running.

My mate put a 9l on 3s in his stampy and that thing is a wheelie popping machine. Any gearing he has run so far it runs dead cool and so does the MM. He is also running the Max tractor tire things on it.

The 9l is a beast! I run a 9l in a heavy pede based tube buggy, and it does great!!!

haha i was pulling HUGE 25 foot backflips over the tripple during the race just to show off, lol the 9l i definetly a beast in ANY rig at or under 5 pounds and btw the vxl tranny in this slash is silky smooth compared to the older regualar 272 models i remember.

i think you would be extremely pleased with the 9L and it is completely drivable at low speeds if you can have a tiny bit of self control and not burry the trigger all the time lol even my 5th battery pack running with the 9L in there i still couldnt resist, scale trucks just look so damn cool doing insane power wheelies even from a 35-40 mph roll.

I've been told that the entire cms36 motor line has the same amount of torque. I do know for a fact my 6900 in the rustler is a pretty nasty combination especially with a 3s (yes I know), although the 2s really seems to flip it backwards even more so at any speed, probably the higher C/mah rating. But I've also read that torque is a function of kv. But so are amps, so perhaps the variance in amp draw between the motors counter act the kv and come out to equal torque numbers. Anyways, when I fry my 6900 after runnin it on 3s lipos, I'll look into that 9L motor everyone keeps talkin about, does it cost about the same as your standard BL motor?

how would it stand up to water? just the odd puddle or wet grass?

idunno on the puddle or wet grass but the track was kinda wet and muddy the whole night running the slash and im not even so sure that the castle motors are what youd call water proof i mean if any water gets to the windings it can short the motor and burn it up. I bought my 9L from rc-monster, they are cheaper than a castle motor, but youll need mikes heatsink clamp. which puts the motor and clamp around a $100 give or take im not sure.

does mike sell them anymore?

Do you have a pic of how you fit the heatsink clamp? I tried to fit it but it looked like I'd have to carve out the back of the tranny. I just put an 8L/MM combo in my Slash, but haven't had a chance to run it yet.

i was thinking the same, looking at the pictures of it i think the fins only cover half of the motor can so it might be alright

you have to shave the fins down to fit inside the plastic housing its a tight fit but it works, and easier and better solution would be a FLM tranny case :whistle: one of these days ill get one for my slash. i switched to mod1 gearing and can run 40/12 through 40/17 i usually run a 40/14 which is silly silly fast.

for just general running is the heatsink realy needed? seems a waste to grind down a brand new heatsink clamp, or would a normal heatsink work?

what is mod 1 gearing?

the main purpose is not so much for the heatsink but for the clamp part as it sandwhiches the ends of the motor together not letting them "pop out" on you during running, the feaigo motor are pressed or snapped together so under hard driving or any jumping or bashing they can easliy come apart the mike heatsink clamp prevents this.

if you dont wanna grind on a heatsink buy the flm tranny and itll just be a bolt up installation and you have a much stronger motor mount and the tranny will serve as a bigger heatsink also.
