I would take the truggy, and probably would have at 12 too. Man that thing would have been a blast to bash in Asheville, NC where I lived when I was 12.

I never got anything for getting straight A's. I graduated with a 4.0, and my graduation present was my mom's favorite movie on DVD. I get no respect. (to be read in the tone of Dangerfield...)

From what you've posted about your kids and their interests they sound like great dedicated kids.

I would think it therefore fairly logical that he would want to continue to be interested in something his Dad was interested in - Hence I think he'd take the car so he can get Dad time...

I was "allowed" to use my own money and buy a motorcycle - all I had to do was make all A's for the all of the 9th grade, Civics, Latin, Algebra II, English and PE. My Mom and Dad later admitted they would've never made the offer if they had really thought I would be able to do it, lol!

Same here. I busted my butt all summer working 12 hour days to make the money to buy my first motorcycle, my first car (bought it out of a junk yard and had to build it before I could drive it!). I had to wait all year to buy the bike 'cause my grades were too low. I even remember the smell of that bike sitting in the show room - means a lot when you worked hard for it. Then I put myself through college.

Did he say: "I'll take the truck and put it on eBay!"? Because that's what I would do! It's worth a lot more than $500.
