I have a G2 EMAXX, MMM with Tekno neu 1515/2.5d 6S2P A1232 EMAXX/V2 Sliperrential/Big joe and Save X tires (almost the same diameter)...13lbs truck
Temps for multiple run Motor: 120-140*F(Max temp) MMM: 110-120*F Battery: 80-100*F last time I've had a high motor temp was the screw on the slipperential gear came a bit loose another one was when the Spur slipper clutch was loose....but once they got tightened I never reached higher temps than posted above |
So with the Neu motors, what rpm should we be shooting for when selecting the gearing and batteries. I've been running through the speed calculator time and time again, and most set ups that I like put me at about 24K for RPM's at top speed. I feel like this is underworking the motor, and may not be in the efficiency range.

all my temps are about the same. I'm in a 13lb Muggy on 4800mah 6S, tekno 1515 1y, 12t pinion, 46t spur, and I was told the same temps by castle. Maybe these tekno version do run hotter for some reason. gearing HAS affected me though, as I hit 180 on the motor (I let it cool down) with an 18t(!) pinion, which was not really driveable anyway.

I've been getting my motor/battery combos lately that spec out in the ~38K rpm range with 4-6S lipo and Neu 1515/1512 motors.
I had a running concern myself that my temps were always high (around 150-170) after about 5 or so minutes of running, but one day I said so what if I end up killing the motor and just kept running. To my surprise I temped things at the end of about 15-20 minutes and the temps were still the same 150-170 range. This took a real burden of concern off my shoulders as I realized that even though 160 may seem high, it is still well within the motor operating range and that was the stabilized high temp on the motor. |
FWIW, my Neu always runs about 150 to 160 no matter what gears/tires I put on it. ESC and batt temp are another matter though, lol.

thanks for all the help. i'm glad to hear from some of you that temps didn't change when regearing or chaning tires. i started out with moabs and took them off because of the heat. looking back, temps were no worse. this hobby just seemed so expensive at the time i bought the brushless system, i didn't want to burn it up. i got the new e-maxx in january, spent 3 months making it stronger then went brushless after my third evx-2 died and took a lipo with it. it's been a while since i spent some money on this. i guess i may just be up to running it until lvc cuts. i think i'll still change the motor bearings though. anyone know the size and if i should go ceramic for these? |

after taking the rear cover off, i pulled the rotor out and found a few things:
1) it is a real tight fit between the rotor and windings 2) it was real dirty in there (full of actual dirt/sand) 3) it looks like the dirt/sand had scratched the surface of the rotor and windings maybe the friction of the dirt/sand was making things hot? i cleaned it out real well, lubed up the bearings (which were fine) and put her back together. only this time i covered up the two unused mounting holes with foil tape and slipped some fuel tubing over the three leads coming out of the motor to totally seal the can. i haven't ran it yet, but we'll see... |
The pics ive seen of them opened they are mauled up bad, but work fine, so dont be too concerned about that. Hope it runs better for you
