Are you a terrorist? The systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion. Webster’s definition of terrorism. Generally when you think of the word “terrorism” bad things come to mind. Why is this? Is all terrorism bad? Does any good ever come from it? In the past years we have heard this word being used many times, and it will never stop. Acts of terrorism are some of the few things that people seem to never forget. The Holocaust was a systematic persecution and murder of over six million Jews by the Nazi regime. This group of Germans came into power in 1933 and believed that they were racially superior to any others in the world. It was not only Jews that the Nazis targeted; Gypsies, the disabled, Poles, Russians, and many more were the targets of probably the biggest act of terrorism to this day. September 11, 2001 a series of coordinated suicide attacks fell upon the United States. Nineteen members of the group known as Al Qaeda hijacked four commercial jet airliners. These members had the intentions of crashing two of them into the twin towers, one of them into the pentagon, and the last was destined for Washington DC. Three out of the four hit their mark, but the one to DC did not make it due to the heroic passengers who tried to take control of the hijacked plane. There are no known survivors for any of these four flights. A Total of 2998 people died in this attack. Every year that passes by we stop and think of what happened that day and how it has changed everything since then. World War II started for the United States on December 7th 1941 when a surprise military attack came across the United States. On the base of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Japanese fighter pilots came in and sank four navy battleships, three cruisers, three destroyers, destroyed 188 aircraft, and much more. Over 2402 people died in the attack. Although the casualties are low this brought us into WWII which will have changed the US forever. As you can see these are all events that no one will ever forget, yet they all will fall into different categories of terrorism. The holocaust was a way for the Nazis to gain power and control in Germany. Wouldn’t that be considered a terrorist attack? September 11th was considered one of the most dramatic terrorist attacks in history. The Japanese fighter pilots who bombed Pearl Harbor wanted to neutralize the US which would make them have more power. There is no internationally agreed definition for terrorism. A Tsunami killing thousands to a terrorist shooting down people in a school can all be considered terrorism; they are just different levels of it. Although natural disasters do not get any power through their terrorism they do cause fear in many peoples lives. When you know that there is going to be a tornado, huge thunderstorm, earthquake or any type of natural disaster fear is the first thing that goes through your body. If someone mentions a terrorist attack near your city fear is the first thing that comes to mind. Does this mean that any type of fear related aspect in life can be considered an act of terrorism? Would a spider be considered a terrorist? Politically the word terrorist is used for the people who try and cause harm to others in an act of violence. KKK was an extremist group who were considered terrorists of their times. Their sole purpose was to intimidate others through lynching and violence for what purpose? Did any good come from the Ku Klux Klan? Currently we are fighting a war on “terror”. Who would be considered the terrorists in this war? To the people we are fighting maybe we are terrorists. In the US we consider the Iraqis to be the terrorists, but who really is to say which one of us are the bad guys. There seems to be an endless cycle of questions when looking into terrorism. No definition is exact; it primarily is how you see it. If you believe that the KKK was a good thing and should come back then to some you are a terrorist but to others you may be a friend. No matter who you are talking about the word terrorism will bring fear to their minds, but everyone has different fears that will tingle them when they think about it. If everyone was on the same page and everyone had the same thoughts then the term terrorism or terrorist would not exist. We created this term through horrific events that should not have ever been done in the first place. In the end the only definition that works for terrorist in every country, city, and continent is fear. We Fear hearing this word and fear the outcomes that happen when a terrorist attacks. Next time you hear terrorist being used stop and think about whose side you are on. You may agree with what this “terrorist” has done. Do not be afraid of it. Embrace the inner terrorist in you. so the first half of it i had somewhat of an idea but then the last part was total BS. go ahead and flame guys! im not afraid!:na: |
Not bad... Lets see what mark you got - The only thing I would have added is the time dimension... and the original popular terrorist "Robin Hood"

On reflection I think your should have written it Are you a terrorist? - put the dictionary definition:
Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) - Cite This Source - Share This ter·ror·ist [ter-er-ist] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –noun 1. a person, usually a member of a group, who uses or advocates terrorism. 2. a person who terrorizes or frightens others. 3. (formerly) a member of a political group in Russia aiming at the demoralization of the government by terror. 4. an agent or partisan of the revolutionary tribunal during the Reign of Terror in France. –adjective 5. of, pertaining to, or characteristic of terrorism or terrorists: terrorist tactics. [Origin: 1785–95; terror + -ist; cf. F terroriste] —Related forms ter·ror·is·tic, adjective And then written about how about how by using his power and position as a teacher he inflicts terror and frightens students with his behavoir - by definition he is a terrorist! |
Writing is definitley a tough thing to get a good grip on. Think of it as another means of you communicating your thoughts to others. Unless you learn to do it better, you will have a hard time with communicating. I struggled horribly when I was in high school and college - my ex wife, who I married in college, was an english major, and she worked hard to get me to where I could think it through and put my thoughts on a piece of paper. Hard work for a former farm boy turned engineer.
