My only advice would be is to make sure you are going to get something good and long lasting. Don't get fad tats or you're going to look like a jerkoff in a few years.
Just think of the dopes that got "WORD TO YOUR MOTHER" tats back in the day |

lol. And does the tat have a tat on it's back of itself? The taller than you part sounds tricky. I thought (and still do) about getting one; an armband of my son's name, except each letter would be encoded as an 8 bit binary string forming the name. It would be curvy so it looks like some odd tribal thing from a distance. But I HATE needles! I can't even be in the same room when my son gets his shots. And when I need a shot, I have to really prepare. |
I have 2 tattoos. One on my right bicep of a large dragon just because i really like dragons, no special meaning behind it. And the second is my son's name translated to korean on my inner left forearm. I do not regret either tattoos but i am also 31 years old and waited many years before actually getting either of them done. I guarantee if i had got most of tats that i wanted when i was your age i would definetly regret them now. I say wait till your 25-30 and if it still seems like a good idea then go for it.

Sounds like everyone advice is about the same: Wait until you're sure of what you want to get (not some arbitrary thing just because it's there), don't put it somewhere that is always visible (hand, neck, etc), and/or have it mean something...

i think that if i got any type of tattoo i would go somewhere reputable. probably would go to a bigger town just so i could be sure they are good.
i am 18 for those of you who asked. i know im young and i may not get one RIGHT now, but im just now starting to think about it. i appreciate all your help. |

neither of my parents have any so i guess i was "raised" that way but i personally dont feel that you can be raised to not get a tattoo
you can be raised to think drugs are bad. you can be raised to not drink but tattoos? i dont think it is bad at all to get any. although there are some tattoos that i would never get. |
