My mbx-5 weighs 9.1lbs....heavy I know, but w/a 5s, it makes up for the weight...

I am trying to lighten it a bit...titanium screw kit, etc...

Wheel/Tire weight is the most important imo, because you have to take into account the wheel and tire rotation in addition to forward motion. Each oz of tire weight accounts for more than 1.5 oz of weight performance wise.

I've had sets of tires and wheels range between 12.15 oz per set to 18.8 oz per set. The panther slicks are the lightest tires ive seen at 44g per tire. Team Associated 83mm wheels are the lightest wheels ive seen 33g per wheel. Also molded foams are about twice the weight of standard foams -11g vs. 6g. Stay away from tires with channels and big knobs.

I've gotten my 8ight down to 7.20 lb rtr with a 30 4100 mah 4s pack.

i know the rc8 is under 8 pounds. i have a rtr with everything factory team except for the chassis. and it weights 7.6 pounds.

and my buddys mugen weights 7.1something pounds.

and the mbx5r is about 7.6 pounds.

Considering the Losi 2.0 stuff but I'm leaning toward the heavier Z01-B & T...Just feel like the Losi is too fragile for the abuse brushless dishes out. Could be wrong.

Don't get me wrong, but the parts on the 8ight I think are superior in quality compared to the parts on losi's 1/10 scale stuff. There's also the Xray 808. While it is one of the lightest, is also the strongest according to some. Personally I would just go with whatever chassis suites you and focus more on the weight of the electronics, battery tray, wheels and tires - parts that don't affect the durability and drivability of the vehicle.

I guess one thing that isn't really stated when these weights are given is what is included. All the numbers I found from manufacturers just give the weight . . . is that with a motor and everything? If so, what motor as I'm sure many are different weights. So I guess it may not be as helpful of information as I was trying to put out there.

It would be cool to have all of the rolling chassis of these buggies and weigh them - try to make it apples to apples. I think that would be cool to know. So . . . any voulunteers? :lol:

Does anyone know the weight of the O'donnell Z01-b? I just got one off eBay and was doing the "feel" test against the 8ight roller and it seems way lighter. It has all aluminum drive shafts and some other weight saving things on it. Seems like a really light buggy. Too bad I don't have a scale!

I don't know the weight but the O'Donnell is more like the older generation in terms of weight. One of the Magazine reviews really slammed it because of it's heft. Personally I think it has a light drivetrain and is a beefy, reliable buggy. I built one from scratch and have the truggy on order with my LHS for RC-Monster an electric conversion.

What did you pay for it? Is it in decent shape?

Really? Wow, that really surprises me. I sure wish I had a scale. I got it for $175. It included the RC-Monster motor mount, Tekno battery tray, unpainted body, two sets of tires (one set is bald), and a couple misc. parts.

It's in pretty good shape, but the guy that did the conversion wasn't as "clean" as I like to see. He did several things that weren't thought out well or executed well. Easy to fix, but irritating.

Not sure if I'm going to keep the buggy or not. Did you convert yours to brushless? If so, what did you think of it?

Sounds like a great deal! I kept bugging my LHS about the Truggy and I love to build so he gave me a ZO1-B to build a few weeks ago. I built it and it's for sale at the shop. I did not actually run or convert it but we did have a guy at our track this year who had one and that made me know it was the direction I would move in. It was quick and strong. I've been running Truggy and MT, I may switch to buggy this year, if I do I will get my own ZO1-B.

I've really wanted to get a buggy for a while and was always interested in the Z01b because of the drivetrain. From what I understand it's the freest and lightest on the power source that you can get. I figured that would be ideal for brushless where efficiency is key.

What does the 8B 2.0 weigh?? I have it, but I want a lighter buggy....

I know the losi buggys are pretty light. My rc8 to a 8ight is like night and day. But i like the way my rc8 reacts more the the 8ight i had. Now they say the 2.0 buggy is hands down the car to drive right now.

I might pick one up but this is a great thread for sure.
