I do have another one you could help out with. I've been wondering about the manual brake/throttle servo. What would you recommend for the manual brake servo in a STRR truggy or even a losi 8b. Pardon my ignorance here but is there any physics(?) or what not involved with the way these manual brakes are used that a high torque servo not really required to stop or is it all servo force that makes them stop short of the curb?
there are physics involved, leverage. A 40 oz/in servo can lock up the tires of a monster truck easily

The rest of you guys are all over the board! LOL JK you guys. All of your posts were very helpful. Atleast the way Brian put it I might be able to remember it better. I'm sitting well on the high torque servos. I'm running the HS5955TG in the evo and emaxx and have the HS5988TG in the Kyosho truggy and Losi eight. This will help me figure out a decent servos for the smaller RCs at half the cost of the ones above. I have a rag tag fleet of servos as I bet most of you do also. A box with Futaba, Traxxas, Hitec, no namers, cut cords, and a zip lock bag with a bunch of gears that are not inner changable with any other servo. A winter project/goal is to get a decent digital servo on each of the RC. One of thier own. I have stolen so many parts off the Pede that all that is left is the FLM chassis. Well there's more but that all that is put together.

If your running a nitro it seem like it could be a catch 22 if you need torque for the brakes but you would want speed for the throttle.

Thanks pedeboi364. Your numbers also fit in with Brians rule of thumb. Nice to have some consistency.

Buy the fastest servo for your brakes/throttle. They don't need a lot of torque but speed will help a lot.

Wow. Honestly I was just guessing based on weight and typical use of the vehicle. I have a Futaba S9155 in my Rustler and a BLS351 in the Ultra GTP, so I can't speak from experience! I am going to buy a HS7955TG for my Berg 2.2. That JR servo that TDC57 mentioned looks nice, too!

Thanks again for the guidance. The answers about the servo for the brake/throttle helps a lot also. Speed it is and no catch 22 to keep me awake at nights.

I'll go ahead and post what I've found to work the best for me, not all of them are particularly cheap but they all work very well.

1/10th scale 2 wheel drive (RC10GT, Rustler, Jato)
Hitec HS-625MG: $35ish brand new, VERY durable, plenty fast and torquey for flopping around M2ks on a Stampede or the Badlands on my Rustler.

1/10th scale mini-truggy 4wd (crt.5, ls10, DST)
Convert it to use a standard servo and run the 625.

1/8th Buggy 4wd
I've got my Revo's Hitec HS-985MG in my Hyper and it works very well, could probably go with a cheaper servo for this.

1/8th Truggy - Muggy
Tried the 985 in my Muggy and it was pitifully weak, upgraded to the JR DS8711 and it'll steer the stock tires (basically 40 series crimefighters) on thick carpet with ease. So powerful that despite the threadlock on the screws it flexes the aluminum servo mount on my Muggy. VERY impressive servo, it's pricey but it's a beast.

E-Maxx - Revo - Savage - LST (Single servo setups)
I found the Hitec 985MG to work very well in my Revo, it was cheap compared to what most other people were using and steered pretty quick.
