Do ya wanna hear something unpleasant? From what I've read in various places, GH parts arent much better than integy with regards to durability. Whether thats true for all users or just hardcore jumpers/bashers who abuse their trucks remains to be seen. Sure looks alot like integy stuff if nothing else- which finger are you least fond of Krawlin?...

And the GH parts held up quite well for me, I still use their shock towers, center braces, and aluminum steering setup. (Still have their bulks in the front of my Maxx because I haven't gotten around to putting the FLM hybrids in the front yet, but that will come soon, just wait for the pics.) And I would rather keep all of my fingers if you dont mind... More pics coming up in just a few minutes. |
And then I finally made the switch to brushless after being pestered by Ryan and Ben for so long....
I purchased an Align 600XL, and took the MM out of my XXX-T, and bought 2 SPC Racing Ener-G 4600 NiMH Matched Maxx Packs. Also shown in these pictures are the OFNA Ultra LX One shocks and the GH Racing shock towers. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...wlin/Maxx2.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...wlin/Maxx3.jpg And yes I know I had pre-load clips on those shocks, that was only until I realized they looked like crap and didn't make the truck have a stiffer suspension feel. I have yet to buy stiffer springs for it. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...wlin/Maxx4.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...wlin/Maxx5.jpg |
Getting better. I want to see that damn huge motor now!

And here is a video of it on 12 cells NiMH with the Align 600XL. Also shown in this video was this trucks first run with RPM Arms. And forgive my horrible driving in that video, I was attempting to do a front flip and land it but had no such luck.

So anyway, after about 15 runs or so on that Align 600XL, it died a very smokey death. First time running it on 4S LiPo, about 7 minutes into the run and the Maxx coasted after a full throttle pass and wouldn't respond to throttle or brake input, took the body off and smoke was rolling out of the vents on the motor. Based on what alot of people told me, it was probably a short in the windings. But it got hot enough to make the motor pretty much loose all of its magnetic strength. And since its an inrunner/outrunner hybrid, it has "bar" type magnets that are spaced equally around in the inner rotating can, and appearently they came unbonded and now there a clumps of 2 and 3 of them together, not equally spaced. So after that 600XL fried, I took it out and did some work on the Maxx..... (pictures coming up.)

The next upgrade on the list was the tranny and diffs and new bulkheads. Since I stripped an idler in the tranny, I bought the RC-Monster hardened steel ones. However, I only used one, because I locked the tranny in second and turned it 180 degrees in the chassis so the spur would be facing forward. Then I purchased a G-Maxx single motor motor plate. Next up was the diffs and bulkheads. There were 2 problems here. 1st was that it had stock plastic diff cups and would spin the spider pin around inside the case and strip it and render it useless. Took care of that problem with FLM aluminum diff cups. But then a second problem came about, the ring and pinion gears were stripping. I realized that they were stripping due to having the stock plastic gear cases and diff case retainers. They were allowing the pinion and bearings to move and flex the case when load was applied, allowing the pinion to push out from the ring gear and strip the teeth. So I took care of that problem with FLM Hybrid bulks for the 3906 diffs. Now I somewhat regret not going with the hybrid bulks meant for buggy diffs, but oh well. Anyway, I currently have the rear FLM hybrid bulk installed, and have yet to install the front one. Now for some pics. Also pictured are the RPM arms. Something you may not be able to see in the picture are my custom wing mount braces and the 1/4'' wingmount setback I did with some aluminum spacers.
First some pictures of the Maxx posing with my crawler and buggy http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...n/DSCN1999.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...n/DSCN2000.jpg And now for some pictures of the Maxx (dont mind the crawler in the background of these pics) http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...DSCN1995-1.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...n/DSCN1997.jpg Quote:

You really should get shrink wrap on your plugs. Don't want them to short out. Real easy to do with a screwdriver.
