No kidding. But then again, he's probably using Feigaos (or his mysterious "XLT" motors) geared to the moon so no wonder. For the same weight (and probably price), he could have gotten a Neu 1515 or maybe even a 1521 and not have to worry about it.
Bottom line: Dihydrogen Monoxide cooling is good for: bragging rights, to do something different, or to make your setup look "techy" with all the doo-dads running everywhere. |

I had a 61mm extended Lst2 around 15 lbs due to 8k 6S lipo and 1527 1D motor and a 40 ser big joe tires. I had a +9 pinion with a 6S and I guess it was a bit much on the high side for the Hydra 240 to handle. After 7 min
it went up in flames. It was running real good before the mishap. It will wheely up even though my batts are in front and I extended it also in front to avoid wheelies. My motor and ESC stayed cool till the ESC started smoking and flames started coming out. Less gearing and I think it will be fine. I was running it with a 5S and it ran good. I guess the 1527 1D eats too much amps for the ESC to handle. Do you think the MGM 22418 will take my setup better? I know I have to gear it down when I get it back up and running. My setup ran real cool, I checked the waterflowing with a temp gun and it drops about 40 degrees before it goes back to my water tank. |

1527 1D is a 2300kv motor, you shouldnt be running it on anything more than 4s lipo. For 6s lipo a 1527 1.5D would be more than enough, though a 1521 1Y would be great also. Getting the setup correct (motor/Kv/voltage/esc) is critical- boat and plane escs arent designed to handle the high current surges from a standstill or when you punch the throttle whilst moving- MGM would be much more suitable, though the MMM can handle the 1521 and 1527 also it seems...

The nitro motor you replaced in your lst2 was revving between 30000-35000rpm at max under load. This is also the ideal rpm range for a BL motor and will give you plenty of gearing options to adapt your motor to different driving conditions. Crazy fast with bigger pinions and better controlable + more likely to behave like a nitro motor with smaller pinions. With no need to use those ultra small pinions below 12t. A 1521/1Y (1577kv) @ 22,2V (6s) would rev at 35000rpm and is a perfect fit. Your 1527/1D (2300kv) @ 22.2V might have hit 51000rpm. Your 9t pinion indicates that it was impossible to gear it apropriatly. Even with 5s it will rev @ 42500rpm. Still not easy to gear as it will require very small pinions and a powerfull ESC. At 2300kv it would be a better fit with 4s lipo, but this would demand very high Amps to get some decent power for your heavy truck: 2000-2500 Watt -> 150-200A @ 4s. I guess the MGM 224 is your best bet or maybe the MMM if it really can provide a 200A surge current. |

My extended Lst2 was running a 34/63 gears, stock is 25/63. It's just too much load from excessive gear that is why I fried two ESC. Now I know how to be conservative as I spent way too much on ESC. I made a flat chassis 2" extended Lst2, I'll be putting the 1527 1D or 80mm 2K Medusa(when it arrives).I'll be running a OFNA spider 53 spur 13? It should be weigh 14lbs hopefully or lower. I'm sure this would handle better with the lower
center of gravity. |
