I shot me a MB5 Prospec roller at ebay for a brushless conversion. Even after taking apart and cleaning it I can still find spots to get my hands dirty. Nasty!

Think about it: 1: Nitros rpm range is around 30k. BL is about there and up to 60k depending on the motor. 2: Nitro power band is the typical curve; low power at low rpm and then increases until the peak, which is typically fairly near the upper end of the rpm range. BL torque is instant, which is where it counts for acceleration. So, there are no power benefits to nitro. BL could be made for high speed, but most of us like to use them for racing or bashing, and a high speed truck doesn't do either of those well |
Proof is in the pudding.
Hey Rivermaxx we are happy that you have come to play here at RCM, and that you are slowly making the change over to BL, but you are right there is no love lost here for nitro and that is not going to change even though some of the guys here run both.
As far as your comment on the BL Revo well things are just begining to heat up in that respect. We all know that the power of BL is much higher than nitro, especially on take off. A DC motor has twice the torque of a nitro setup, and a steady flow of power until the batteries reach their miliamp limits. That end is only getting better and better. As for the ESC's and other electronics burning up. A lot of those events are due to improper setups, Poor choice of equipment matching, and lack of knowledge for the most part. Even the manufacturers are still in the learning curve for BL so we are at their mercy. Still if you do your homework and make the right choices for your setup I would be willing to bet that you could give your old nitro counterparts a run for the money, and probably convince them to try BL due to your showing. It is still a matter of preference just like fans of Ford or Chevy or whatever. Who really cares anyway. Just have fun running what ever you can get your hands on and enjoy the hobby. Lifes too short. Good luck with that guys. Can't we all just get along??? |
Jzemaxx. His XTM went to 80.4mph.

The truth is that I just don't get along with Nitros, thats why I don't run them. |

i was gonna say...66mph is nothing.. well, its fast but i have seen plenty of brushless setups do that. Kulangflow from here on the forum has a revo that i would be willing to bet does at least 55mph. and that is just his regular setup. thats not trying to be "fast" or anything. all he would have to do to break that 66mph is change his gearing. and yes, the new brushless revo coming out will definitely do. i guarantee within a couple of weeks there will be tons of videos on you tube with guys trying to break 100mph. nitro is not bad. i was just bitching about it. just pointing out the reasons we all like brushless. 1/8 nitro has given us most of our rides we all like. the truggies, buggies, and MTs. if it werent for brushless i wouldnt be in this hobby most likely. i had electrics as a kid and loved them. then i got a hobby grade nitro 6 years ago and i had too many complaints. 4 months ago when i walked into a hobby store for the hell of it and heard about this somewhat new electric technology called "brushless' and that is was more powerful and faster than nitro i was so excited. needless to say i have been addicted ever since. or as Star likes to put it..."afflicted." i like that. its a total affliction to my wallet. lol. @ Rivermaxx, have you converted a 1/8 yet? do you have a setup with a Neu motor and enerland cells? take the opportunity to do this and i am willing to bet you will never go back to your nitro. you may keep them still but your new brushless would outperform your nitros in every single way. not trying to hate, just convert you to the light. we need to baptize you with brushless!! |

I agree with that assessment. My nitros had been on the background ever since I converted my emaxx to brushless :intello:. |
lol the Nitro forum here should be a dedicated inteRveNTIOn section, focused on those who need our help the most...

To be fair, there are a number of benefits of nitro, listed below:
1: You don't mind going mudding, because even if you don't, the combination of dirt and nitro oil will make mud anyway. 2: Realism I guess. Although, I've never known a 1:1 car to sound like a giant mosquito, nor do they smell so bad I want to vomit. 3: Fumes contributes to global warming. With the temps here right now (and the last few days), it would be welcome. 4: Fumes gets you high without resorting to illegal drugs. 5: Gives you exercise. Not only do you have to walk over to flip the vehicle back over, you have to walk to your pit area to restart it. 6: The noise gives the neighbors something to complain about. 7: Most animals won't chase a nitro. Not only are they loud, but the fumes keeps them away. I guess that makes animals are smarter than nitro users. 8: Making you think you are cool because you can work on an "engine". That's about all I can think of right now, but I'm sure you guys can come up with others... |
9: Carrying around the starter box, glow plugs, extra fuel, batteries for the receiver, batteries for the starter, and an extra gallons of fuel will get you stronger as well...good for your muscles and cardio...
10: Who want to clean off their car with just an airhose anyways? Its just too easy!!! 11: Taking apart your nitro engine and then putting it back together and NOT having it start is WAY more fun than changing a brushless motor's bearings... 12: Four words...Clutch bells, clutch shoes....yesssss..gotta love those springs!!!! 13: Plug and Play is soooo overrated...I'd rather take out my car, put some fuel in it...Then attempt to start it for the next 20min and figure out why its not starting instead of the electric guys who are already on their 2nd battery... my 2cents... |
