Yes, both the ESC and the servo will run fine. The signal lines draw very little current, so there is little chance of overloading the rx.

However, using a Y cable to the ESC and servo severely limits your adjustments. Whatever tx/rx tweaks you do (EPA, trims, etc) affects both the ESC throttle and brakes at the same time. You might need to make some adjustments to get the aircraft ESC to work that may interfere with how the brake works. Also, if the brake servo run the wrong way, you may need to reverse the channel, but that would make the ESC not work right (if at all). This is why channel mixing is nice. Both the brake servo and ESC throttle are controlled by the trigger, but each has its own set of adjustments since they are actually on different channels.

Just got back from th lhs. I asked the mechanic and he said even if I got over the breaking problem the esc coulden't be programmed to recognize commands from a normal radio. Is this true? I don't get what the dieerance is. I don't want to blow $100 more than I have to because some guy had a bad day and gave me the wrong advice.

Also what is this channel mixing your talking about. I've heard of it but I don't know how to do it.

Thanks

He is right... sort of. Some ESCs can recognize a pistol radio. On some you have to play with the radio EPA and trim settings to work. On others, you need a device called the Pistix adaptor. It basically translates the singal coming from the rx to be what the ESC wants to see. Unfortunately, production has stopped on these and they are hard to come by.

Isnt it amazing how everyone can focus on just the gas in the car freezing

Anyways, some air esc's will work with a pistol radio, like this one

I know works with one, because i use it in my CRT.

Also, when setting it up the first time, make sure the motor is on the mount and there is NO pinion. First time i plugged it in it was ready to drive, plugged in the batt in my house and WHOOSH... long story short, im very cautious plugging in my battery now

Thats a good price. Would that work with my afterburner motor? How do you like it?

or theres even this:

Is this a reliable brand? There are reviews from people who have it in lx series bugys like me and love it.

nitrodude 01.21.2009 09:05 PM

Yup, should work with your motor.
I have mine running my crt x1, with 6s A123 and a kb45 2300kv motor, and the esc handles it fine and stays pretty cool after a full batts worth of bashing.

IF you do get it, you will need a BEC or separate receiver pack. I run a CC Bec and it works great.

If you want even cheaper, you can check out the "super simple" esc's.

$30
Never bought one, but been pondering it for the price i don't see how you can lose

maxair45 01.21.2009 09:29 PM

Wow. Would that one work wit my motor? Soryy I don't know about motos ratings and how to tell on esc's like that. I think i'll give it a shot. Will it beable to hold up to my power load though?

nitrodude 01.21.2009 09:35 PM

Should be fine, both are 100Amp esc's and i doubt that the afterburner will draw more then that with normal gearing.
Also, if you look, lowest you can run is 4S lipo with the supersimple esc.

maxair45 01.21.2009 10:10 PM

If I drop down to the 60Amp esc will that work. I don't have a 4s to run thats the only reason why i'm going down.

nitrodude 01.21.2009 10:28 PM

60 is pushing it, stick with 100A+

maxair45 01.21.2009 10:32 PM

Well with the money i'll be saving I could probally go with 4s or 5s. Does this have breaks or do I need mechanical breaks? I'm diggin' the GTB clone on there for $60.00 to.
