With working out too much, I don't see that. I have a friend named Leland. He lifts 6 days a week... for 4 hours. He is huge. he's been lifting for 6 months and gained like 20 pounds. I don't think it's healty though... If anyone cares, he's 15, around 180 and he hang-cleaned 4 reps at 215.:surprised: |
 Protein is the building block to muscle development.
The best method of calculating just how much protein is enough for a ‘high protein diet‘ is with the following formula. Lean Mass Weight (Kg) x 2.75 = Daily Protein Requirement (By the way you simply divide pounds by 2.2 to get the equivalent in Kilograms. So 150 pounds is 68.18 Kg) OK, you first need to know your total body weight and your body fat percentage. If you don’t know your body fat percentage I’ve included calculator in the sidebar to help you. Take a few measurements quickly and stick them into the boxes and hit ‘calculate.’ So now you know your body fat percentage. Multiply this percentage by your total body weight to determine the amount of fat you are carrying. Now simply subtract this from your total body weight to ascertain your lean mass weight. :oh: Take this figure and multiply it 2.75 to give you your ideal protein intake per day in grams. Example A man weighs 150 pounds with 15% body fat. • 150 / 2.2 = 68.18 Kg • 15% x 68.18 = 10.23 Kg • 68.18 - 10.23 = 57.95 Kg - Lean body mass in Kg • 57.95 x 2.75 = 159.36 So, therefore our 150 lb, 15% body fat man should be shooting for 159 grams of protein in his daily diet. P.S. One book I’ve been thinking about getting is this one (??) http://www.bottomlinesecrets.com/sto...sid=Y101308A2D The world’s greatest treasury of Health secrets.. Has anyone read this one book? |
Thanks Shawn!
I got 143g of protein/day. Lets see I got around 12.5% body fat and 20.4 bmi. The BMI is in the "normal weight' and the BF% is "athelete". By the time summer jogging Cross country rolls around I will probably get down to 125 easy... UNLESS that is I lift quite a bit over the summer, which I probably will.:yipi: |
OOOOooo you will also need to drink water!.. lots of water!! keep the kidneys flushed and clean... (for what it worth)..
A great source of protein is (Isopure) you get 40grams per 20fl oz to help fill-in the gaps.. 140+ grams of protein is not really easily achieved by eating alone! That is unless your eating lots of small meals evey few hours the books I’ve read suggest eating 6-8 small meals a day or once every 2-4 hours. I've got a great food breakdown log that shows how much and what each food contains If i can find it I'll post it for everyone.. |

building muscle needs 3 equal things to be done and one of them is not more important than the other 1. Working out ( lower reps, heavier wieght builds more strength/muscle size, 6-10 reps per set) 2. get plenty of rest 3.quality diet the science behind building muscle is when you lift wieghts you break down (rip) the muscle fibers and your body will repair those fibers plus a little more and this is what makes your muscles bigger, if you workout too much you never allow the fibers to rebuild. I dont know the amount of time your friend gained these 20 lbs. Expect to gain 10 lbs of lean muscle a yr doing it the right way ( no steroids) |
I quite smokeing, 8 days now. It has been hard but I know it is worth it
|
Sorry, I love to smoke. 15 years now. Right around a pack a day. And I drink beer, and black coffee too. The best part is that I am health and I look young, or at least that's what people tell me. Most people have no idea that I am going on 30.
I attribute it to the smoking. Kept me young. I do work out though. Six times a week. 3 days for running five miles and 3 days for lifting to build endurance and definition. I don't mind. I still smoke and I don't really care to quit. I've tried and I just don't think its in the cards for me right now, other than the fact that I have now gone from a socially accepted practice(back during the 80s) to being shunned by the world because everyone is concerned about what I put in my body besides me. If its good, I'm doing it. Smoke. Drink. Eat fatty foods. Eat sugary foods. Love Carbs. ITS OK, I work out and stay healthy, doesn't mean I need to punish myself. |
Not to rub anyone the wrong way but the thread is titled "The MAN'S thread to good health"! Yet it the thread has been filled up with chat from teenagers, most of which can't even drive yet! Sorry guys but what you do for healthy living is vastly different from what a man that is twice your age will be doing. You young guys metabolism is through the roof. Lets see how your doing in another 10-15 years!
I know I need to lose weigh bad!!! I really need to give up on the soda and eat better and no more late night snacks or meals. When I'm not drinking soda it's water, or soda with some captain! Running is out of the question for me, I can make it about 100' before I feel like I'm gonna die and can barely move, so I'm limited to walking. Two years ago I quit drinking soda, water only. Walked at least a mile a day. I also eat a little better. I had some motivation for this though. At 26 I took a girl to her Junior prom. Now all the Dads out there, don't worry! She was actually my new step cousin, she didn't have a date and since I had never went to mine I offered to take her. At the same time I wanted to make sure I looked decent in a tux. If I had a little motivation again, I know I could drop 30-40 lbs by April, and I may have that motivation after last night at the bar! P.S. Sorry for the long rant |

I hear you dude, I loved to smoke too, but for me the time to quite is now. |

Seriously, it doesn't bother me at all that people smoke. I just wish that those who do smoke would do it in a controlled environment so that it doesn't affect anyone else. As far as the good health thing goes, here's what I've started lately (4 weeks now): -I play basketball twice a week for 90 min -Treadmill for 40 min twice a week -Pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups on the treadmill days -Limiting soda intake to 12oz/day. Results so far: I can finally wear my size 36 jeans again, so I don't need to go buy a bunch of size 38. Also, I can play basketball/run longer without getting winded so much. Sweeeeeet |

I know it stinks, and it's expensive and supposedly it's disgusting (chew is way worse in my book). I do work out regularly and I did find a few easy tips to weight loss, as I did manage to drop 15lbs in two weeks. Just count calories in general. It was actually really depressing at first. I found I was taking in over 3500 calories a day. Between soda and snacks, it was out of hand. I brought my self down to 1800 and stayed with my exercise program and the weight dropped off. I do need to shed a few more as the Army says I'm almost fat, which is my fault as last year I tried to put on 10lbs of muscle and now they say I'm overweight. /sigh |
Oh I thought I might add:
I just got tested yesterday, I have 0.8% body fat, but then I ate McDonalds. I'll check tomorrow. |
