uuhhh...
... I'm curious how well or bad mine will be, I've ordered one today. In that online-shop it was on sale for 127 Euro, which is about 169 usd.
I have already heard about the new rotors, and have asked the wholesaler for germany/austria, robitronic. he told me that they're about to receive some new rotors. they have the same power-specs, but a new black winding. I detectet at mine that the kevlar-winding slowly getting loose... but so far I'm happy with the motor, temps have been ok and performance is good. by far better then any chinese-crap. it's a four-pole motor, which gives better torque and is better for the partial load-use we have in cars (the two-poles don't like that much, so they get hot). anyways, the overall-quality of the motor is good, so I ordered the esc. I hope its a good one... at the moment I use a cheapo-chinese esc, modded with fan and fat caps, and it works - funny thing - just flawlessly (just the breaks suck). for a price of 30 euros... I think losi xcelorin needs some positive public relations, the standing of these products isn't the best at the moment. I 've read about so many failures of e.g. mgm controllers, which cost a sh**load of money, still the're supposed to be top of the shelf... at least the xcelorin motor is great quality for that money (about 90-100 euros), it's hard to get medusas here. I wonder if modding of the xcelorin esc with some extra power caps would make sense... any other feedback is highly appreciated. flo |
You should update the firmware before doing anything else to it. A few features will be locked and some will behave different, like the brakes for example. Mine still works fine. I haven't felt the need to add more caps, as the ESC doesn't get hot at all. The limit is 3000kv. I tried a two pole 3600kv motor and it just cogs. I tried a 3100kv 2 pole more and it was a hit or miss. Still works well with a 2700kv 4 pole motor. I haven't tried the 4800kv 4 pole motor yet, to see if it works or not.
Here's a vid of the ESC running on 6s A123 and a 2700kv motor. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dnwr1yJL8oA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dnwr1yJL8oA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> |
I installed the lastest Firmware Losi released for the 1/8 ESC. The ESC was smoother on takoff and ran fine for a whole pack. Second pack started off good. But it let the magic smoke out when it cogged for second. :grrrrrr:

I took mine apart and saw the 3 fets with the missing smoke compartments.
