I want the 10-12s capability for a speed run car, and it would be nice for 5th and 1/4 scale conversions. I do agree that I am happy with 6s for 8th scale applications.

Pretty soon we'll be trying to convert full scale cars - not to drive in, but to pilot from our house or a hillside.

I am thinking 12s might not be enough. Any plans of a 120S controller? Just want to be sure just in case. :)

I personally like 8S or 12S, becuase of the battery configurations that I have.

It is easy to put 2 or 3 4S packs in series to get up there.

I think the 12S will be a great 1/5 scale set up. No too much weight, yet enough juice to make them move.

If you just want to do speed runs get one of those chinese air escs (turnigy hv sentilon comes to mind). theyre fine if you have mech brakes and dont mind what feels like 100000% punch control (ie very soft start). The soft start isn't a problem if you're just trying to go fast in a straight line :).

PS I have a HV (12s 100A) sentilon for sale if you want, pm me.

I have a pair of 3500mah 4S 30c - 50C packs that will fit the E Revo or the E maxx.

This makes for a 8S setup that will push 105 amps continous, 175 amps Burst.

I've been running them parallel to make 4S at 7000mah.

I would like to see this coupled with a 1100kv 80mm Medusa on 8S.

Efficiency out the wazooo.

Yes there are other options, but to compromise and settle for anything less would be a crime.

The MMM software is unbeatable. :yipi:

Damn, you sound like a copy cat... I currently have a pair of fp 3700 25c 4s lipos wired in series with a lutach 10s esc and an axeox 36/38/2 (1200kv or so). Not the lightest truck (bombproof emaxx with lst diffs) and this setup works well. The aveox is more 1515 size, and an 80mm medusa would be a good upgrade. I will be prating this truck to finish some other trucks. Flm savvy will get the esc, and a 3200 30c 10s pack to go with a 1521 2y (780kv). The chassis will replace the plastic chassis on the 6x6 maxx (I have 2 torpedo chassis) with the 2826/12 axi on 4s. The suspension with the lst diffs will mate with a 3905 emaxx chassis and tranny with a plett maxx on 4s with a MMM.... Time to get all of my MTs running! By next sat the hobby room will be reconfigured and I can start working on stuff again... I have spent the last month building lipos and selling!

You guys are both copy cats! I've been running 8s 3700mah 20C, Medusa 36-80-1100, and LT-10s ESC in my Savage for well over a month now. HUGE POWER. Literally the truck will wheelie at 35mph+ no problem despite the extended chassis, center diff (leaked out a bunch of its 100,000wt oil), and near-12.5lb weight. The shape the front tires achieve is just unreal.

However, the motor does tend to get a bit on the hot side, I think upwards of 160 deg. F. ESC and batteries hardly heat up, and the truck is geared for ~45mph. Could it be this motor is undergeared? If so, all I have to say is :surprised:

Not to point fingers:yipi: but my emaxx has been running since november...

So the 80mm gets warm. I guess try to gear it up... I will be interested to see what happens.

MetalMan 02.23.2009 04:01 AM

But your E-Maxx hasn't been running the 80mm .

To get back on topic, if CC made a 8s MMM I would definitely have to get it. I like the LT-10s and all, especially at its price, but I have nothing to compare it with right now .

True, but my aveox runs cooler than your medusa 80.... I wonder why? I would definately like to see what happens when you gear it up some...

As for the 8s esc... I would prefer a 12s esc. Maybe castle can do a 7-12s esc with a lower amp rating than the MMM...maybe keep the cost down that way with a different fet? Only issue is that people would try to use them for 1/5 scale and most likely overload them. I am sure that there are not that many people who really want a hv setup for a 1/8 truck. How many people have a charger capable of more than 6s anyway? I have a 1210i, and do find it useful, but most popular chargers cannot do what it can.

I guess we will see how Lutachs 10s esc does when all of my parts arrive... Maybe the 1521 wil go in the emaxx before I take it appart?

MetalMan 02.23.2009 04:20 AM

The charging aspect is a very valid point. I too use a 1210i (REALLY comes in handy for network-balancing two similar packs, like the two 4s packs, or the two 6s packs my XLB uses), and also have an AF-109 which hasn't been used since I got the 1210i.

We are just freaks, and represent such a small percentage of those involved in this hobby. I have a good feeling CC couldn't make a 12s (non-1/5th) CAR ESC a profitable venture in the near future. 8s could be, but then there are all the noobs who might buy it just so they can run 30+ volts (and destroy it and their motor, of course).

shaunjohnson 02.23.2009 03:38 PM

noobs like me would be a problem.
i know more volts would rock efficiency,
but how do you market such a thing w/o making it bulletproof for the noobies?
shaun

Yup, freaks we are! I do agree that a non high amp 12s esc would not be a top seller. As far as 6s to 8s goes, that does really not open up enough cheap lipo alternatives to make it viable. 10s maybe, but there is not that much difference between a decent 6s pack and a less potent 8s pack (pair of 4s). It is reasonably easy to find a decent 6s 100amp capable pack. As far as 8s goes you will still need a 75 amp capable pack. Go up to 10s and you can use a 60 amp pack, not difficult to find an inexpensive cell that can do 60amps cont.

I can see CC reasoning on 6s. Given lipo/charger availability it is the best bet for 1/8 scale. I can definately see that noobs would have issues getting hv setups to work well. Much like many had issues getting mismatched combos to work well, hv would be no different. Mfg like CC make the combos and it makes it easy for people to get into BL.

OH YOU ALL ARE LATE TO THE PARTY...

We had an Emaxx running on an Aveox 3630/2Y with 10S on a modified Phx-110HV when we were still in Wellsville.... About three years ago.

:na:

bdebde 02.24.2009 06:35 PM

Gee Patrick, sounds like you are the only one at the party... we still can't buy them yet!
