Sweet lookin savage. This project should be sick.

Got a bit more done. I forgot to show the bottom of the motor plate. It has holes for all xl size motors, Medusa 80mm, and Tekno Neu square can. Easy enough to make adapters for any other motor. My Hacker isn't feeling too good, so I may need to scrounge enough money to test these other mounting points soon.

Here's an undershot with the skid plate:

Here are a few showing the transmission separately and then installed. The whole thing will pull out after removing four screws (after removing the motor which consists of two screws) and from there the end pieces pull off so the whole thing will pull apart. Now it's easier to see how the motor plate will adjust from a bird's eye view.

All I need now is a rear dog bone, the roll bar pieces to get cut at my water-jet shop, and a body.

...even though all these builds are different there are still similar arts though...great stuff...love it...

...pb4ugo what will your gearing be? Thats a 40t spur?

pb4ugo 03.24.2009 06:21 PM

Yes, you see a 40t spur. It's supposed to be using a 38t, but the hobby shop was out when I ran over there today. The center is running a 44t on the diff and 20t on the pinion for 2.2:1. With the 38t spur, a 2200kv motor I designed it for, and a 15t pinion on the motor it will go 35mph on truggy sized tires. From there I designed it to fit from an 11t to a 20t motor pinion to adjust the speed, reaching up to 46 with the motor and tires specced here. If I get a speed urge, I can change the center gearing.

MetalMan 03.24.2009 07:24 PM

Did you look at my Revo project while you were designing that older-style slipperential setup? Looks a lot like it, the gearing is even the same (44/20).

Looks great! Let us know how much it weighs when it's complete.

Takedown 03.25.2009 08:10 PM

Looks great man!

pb4ugo 08.01.2009 05:06 PM

Okay, made some changes and a short video. The CF plates had the rear most mounting holes 4.5mm off:diablo: I had the nudge feature set there at one time, so I either hit it once too many times, or my two-year old daughter did while she was helping me:neutral: I tried to hand-drill new holes, but lets just say I should leave that to the CNC machines:lol:

Anyways, when I went to get a second set of plates cut with the corrected dimension, I realized I didn't have enough material left. Couldn't afford another sheet of CF, so I used some 4.73mm thick aluminum. The thing is stronger than hell, but the weight difference is huge! The thing is a tank now! I still have to find a shipping scale or the like I can use, but according to my oh-so accurate bathroom scale, it's 14.4lbs. as seen in the video. Remember, that's with 10600MaH of 5s batteries.

The Hacker is doing surprisingly well. It pushes it well. It is at it's limits, though. After ten minutes of running in 105 degree weather, it reaches 160 and I shut it down. I really want to try the Tekin system in it, but it will have to wait.

Anyways, here's a short, non-edited video to show it. It's geared for about 45MPH here.

Looks like I screwed up the embed, so here's the link:

Another hodge-podge of clips pieced together that I'm calling a video:

pb4ugo 08.01.2009 08:15 PM

What the hell am I doing wrong in embedding these vids?

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out.

Anyways, here's the link:

Awesome build,Looks good and works well. But needs more suspension IE stiffer shock action. The D8 shocks are to soft.

pb4ugo 08.01.2009 08:51 PM

Thanks, and you're right--currently it's too soft. You have to remember this is the maiden run on dirt. I need to thicken the center diff and put the stiffer springs and thicker fluid in the shocks. If it still isn't enough, I'll go to dual 13mm shocks since I can get them cheap.

Bondonutz 08.02.2009 08:23 AM

FYI, The D8 springs come in a mutitude of rates and lenths.

i like it...needs to run suspension like mine and it will be super low :D

BitHed 12.03.2009 09:51 PM

...any updates on this? mine is slow too but really wanting to see this one :) Eye candy pleasy cheesy wheezy :)
