But honestly, the only time I didn't finish a race so far with it was because a nut fell off. I haven't broken anything on it yet. Not a thing. And they last forever with very little wear, so even though parts aren't always cheap, you don't have to buy many.

This is the instruction supplement sheet for the '09 spec. It shows all of the updated parts for the XT8 and the assembly of the front end with the new parts. You need the front tower, and the turnbuckle and the turnbuckle ends that make the new upper front arms. It has the part numbers listed on the sheet.

To build the turnbuckles it looks like you would need:
353130
353150
353160
353170
302268
and then the front shock tower

Once you have the longer chassis that it sounds like you already have, the only other major thing is the new shocks which you probably already have too. Most of the other upgrades were just to make it lighter and lighten the drive train for better acceleration which isn't that big of a deal with brushless power.

Not sure, but I did see a while back someone parting a few of these new kits out on ebay. you might keep your eyes open for that and snag the parts there. Probably a little cheaper if your not in a hurry.

Looks like Amain has everything except the turnbuckle rod itself - they don't even show a part when I search for it. Where is another outlet for Xray parts?

I like to order from Team Helotes. They are in Texas right down the road from RC-America. If they don't have the part they can usually get it within a day or 2. Good service and Jeff is a good guy to deal with.

Nice, thanks. I wish they had all the parts so I could get everything from the same place. Maybe I'll send them an email or something with the part numbers.

Thanks again for all the help!

Most funny thing is , that I am in Slovakia, which is where xrays came from and factory is here. Trust me guys, you would get xray parts way easier than me (and cheaper :) because market is just too little for that here. Just few shops have parts listed and nobody got them in stock.

anyway, I was thinking to get new 2009 spec, or make those upgrades you are talking about ... all the time I am counting.
Big bores are a must, everybody told me that it is really big change.
Now you tell me that this turnbuckles & drivetrain is good as well.
Longer chassis.... dunno, but probably nice to have too
so we are talking 300$ +- since chassis is quite expensive...

adding some shipping and 19% VAt ... 350...
I am able to get brand new without shipment because I will pick it up myself for ... eee 550$ .
thats 200more, thinking that I will have everything new, new body for my "slightly used" one and it won't ever happen that I will go home from a race with something destroyed and no replacement avaiable. I wanted to buy extra diff for replacement, some C hubs and some more stuff worth 100$ for sure.

do you guys too agree that there is only one way, to buy new truggy, build it, ride it and have old one with all parts home?

jhautz 06.08.2009 10:40 AM

Thats what I would do. Seems to make sense. I love having a spare diff or 2 with different fluids in them to be able to quickly change at the track to try different setups. And all the other spares will be nice.

Hey Kalbien, greetings from a fellow european guy.
I'm from Belgium, and I have to order parts in the states too, since they are the cheapest there.

Are you running a brushless xt8? I'm running the non-2009 version, and I think you will be just fine if you buy the big-bore shocks. The drivetrain of the "old" one is still fine if you have a good motor. As we all know, an xray doesn't break easily, so buying a second truck (especially if your old one is slightly used), and keeping the old one just for spares is a bit overkill, in my opinion. Especially when the parts you'll have spare are just the diffs and the plastic parts, since all the rest has been updated.

hmmmm, haven't though about that ... and it makes 100% sense. having few diffs with different fluids, you can change them really fast on track.

jasje : well everything else? are you sure?
axles / driveshafts are new, but do they have different sizing as well?
mhmh ;) well I am going for my first race with xt8 next saturday. I will keep it like it is for now.
Another thing is I just WANT a new toy :-P (ehm I guess you know what I mean by that )
