We are sure you will have some fun, as your projects are always a blast to monitor. I like the idea of putting guide wheels or 360 casters under the mower deck as that is the method used on most commercial mowers now a days. That would be the best way to face off with the neighborhood pit bull, is by viewing it from your lounge chair while you face off with a snarling killer. At least no one gets hurt that matters:oops:. That would make an awesome video on UTube or facebook. Fighting it out on video between a brushless project and some mangie old pooch:lol:. Too funny:rofl:.

I would think your guide wheels around the cutting blades idea would be the way to go (basically like most conventional ride-ons). then they would support the cutting deck and you could almost leave the suspension stock. The car would just push the cutting deck along. You would still have to beef up the suspension and add weight to the back if you still want to be able to lift the deck though i suppose.
Are you going to run some really thick oil in the diffs so it won't get stuck as easy? |
Ok, we have updates.
I got the cutting deck built and installed. Also installed the motors, esc's, and the cutting heads. The wiring harness is complete. It even works. The 3rd channel on the radio does successfully turn on and off the cutting deck. It's still untested, but that will be coming soon. :yes: It appears like housing 20,000mah of Lipo on 4S will be pretty easy. What wheels, tires are those - What hex do they have?

PS do the blades overlap otherwise you will have a gap in your cut...
Do the blades spin out to stop the grass filling up under the car? |

I also added a large pan washer and a lock washer. If this doesn't hold, I'm thinking Blue Loctite on the threads. The Prop adapters are aluminum. I wish they were steel. But afterall, they do pull around some really large air planes. There is a fear of over-tightening for me here. If there is a problem, Red Loctite between the Collet and shaft would lock it down. (And also make things really tough to disassemble) Linc, I'm really looking forward to your zero turn mower. You may convince me to redo this one. Are you going to use free floating swivel casters in the front, just like the big boys? |

Dang it's HOT outside today.
Just got back in from testing. This thing will definately cut! :yes: Even the big stuff. About 20 minutes into mowing the right cutter head began starting and stopping, and generally acting erratic. Then the "Mystery" 80 amp ESC let out the smoke. UGH! POS! I researched this esc before it was installed and couldn't find information on weither or not it had an internal bec. I'm thinking it does and this may have been the cause of it's death. The other ESC is a RC Smart 80amp esc and is definately opto. It performed like a champ. In fact, it has some really desireable things built into it. If you hit something really hard and stop the blade, this ESC will shut off. It wasn't thermaling, because it ran cool. Then just turn it off, and back on again. Ready to go again. Cutting head motor temp is fine. After about an hour of mowing and playing around, I was about to melt. Cell voltage at rest is 3.82 after an hour of running. 20,000mah on 4S total. Cutting head speed is good. One thing I don't like about this setup, it's too bouncy. To stiffen up the front, I replaced the shock oil with silicone. This makes the front end like a straight axle. There's more weight in the front, than in the rear. Hmmmm............I'll have to work on this. Time to get another ESC on order. I'll have time to think about this. Any Suggestions guys? |
Just remove shocks and fit it with turnbuckles.
