well, that was an exercise in futility. it didn't work...the hull took on too much water.
I ended up putting a CC 8000kv motor in there with a Dynamite mini tazer on 2S. I reamed two holes in the hull...one for the steering and one for the motor to peek out of. I think I might need bigger props if I want this thing to go. I'm also gonna pick up another cheapo chinese boat. At least the prop on that looks decent and it's a single motor configuration 540 size direct drive. I'll hafta look further into it. I may end up putting the drivetrain on the first boat...and perhaps a VXL motor with a Mamba 25 to power it. Or, I could just throw in the R1-Pro to power it. No, scratch that. I'll use my MM to power it. I won't feel too badly if if gets wet and fudged up. I'd blow a gasket if it was my R1-Pro. Or hey! I have a Novak Super Duty laying around! Would that be able to spin the VXL? |
IIRC the Novak Super Duty is brushed only, VXL is a brushless motor.

Hey, I tried out teh Villain EX on a 6s A123 pack! Wow, it goes like stink.... I get about 7 to 8 minutes runtime, and guessing on speed I would say ~27mph (maybe ~23mph before with 5s pack?)
It has alot more get up and go for sure. The thing I don't get is that even when running the motors at roughly 17 volts under load, the motors were no phased one bit over the 5s packs... maybe they are just getting that much more water because the extra speed... water pickup... well you know. Just thought I would share that. |

Or should I switch them out to a 540 sized motor? |

Yah, i know, the runtime leaves some to be desired (well alot), but i have 3 packs, and after the second pack, i usually just quit so it's fine for me. BTW, the 8 minutes is full throttle the entire run, never letting off. So ya, boats take alot of power to move at a given speed.
If I went and got a 5s lipo pack, it would be same idle voltage, but much higher under load volts... more power and speed, probably alot more... and twice the runtime as well. |
