All this means to me is that I am no longer an A123 enthusiast for RC... and only RC. A123's are better for everything else (all around).

I was going to get some EON X30's, but couldn't find any sources... then some Turnigy's.... now it's some new hyperion packs (either the 25C or the 35C) for a decent buck too. 5C charging, flat discharge curve(or so they say) and 4x cycle life as well.

Crapamps came out with a flat celled a123 pack, and I expect more companies to follow, so keep your chargers!

First off, who came out with a flat cell A123?

I don't use the A123 chargers, i use a lab quality programmable power supply to charge my packs, very universal and versatile piece of equipment.

Although, I am on the look out for a 0-40volt, 0-20amp unit. For the mean time I am going to probably get a Hyperion 720i.

Where do you get that charger?

MaxCraps makes the pack - http://www.radiocontrolzone.com/show....php?p=2404921
Construction will probably suck along with cell matching.... I'm not sure if a123 is making the cells, probably some off-brand cheapass chinese dirt shack.

How's your EV going?

I got it from 'Mouser Electronics'.

Hmmm 15C charge, now I know for a personal fact that A123's can charge very fast, but stating that it can do it in 15C... BULLSHIT. They would have to have redesigned the whole chemistry for it to be able to do that safely.

I seen A123Systems do a 10C charge (6 mins) on the M1, but at these rates you need to up the charge voltage to actually get the amps they are talking about. Heck, for me to get a 15 min charge(10amps) on a 1p A123 pack, I need to use 3.9v/cell over the standard 3.6v/cell. No if we increase the rate to 10C, that should go up to pretty well 4v/cell, which I know is still safe with those cells, but will lower the cycle life alot. Now, at 15C charge.... well, you get the picture. I call BS, a big pile of burning $HIT.

Who even has the equipment to charge at those rates no doubt!? A standard 15 amp breaker will trip at 1500watts sustained, and thats AT THE WALL. You have to factor in efficiency of the AC/DC power supplies, then the charger, and then the heat created by the cell itself. Enough ranting for me.

Mike actually has the Hyperion G3 packs now, I just bought 2 3s 4200mah/35C packs.

They look like they are pretty much the same thing as the EON X30, only higher C rating (or they could just overrate them), flightpower might just underrate their cells as well... or just different batched cells.

The Hyperions vs. FP:

-Both are a new chemistry
-Both do 5c charging
-Both state 'flattest discharge curve'
-Hyperion says 4x cycle life....FP says unnoticeable degradation of capacity or performance over 100 cycles
-Both have extremely high voltage holding ability

They 'look' on paper like they are the same cells used in both brands... but I thought FP used Enerland? And I thought Hyperion left Enerland?

These new chemistry packs are also alot cheaper than last gens lipos as well.

$96 for 3s 5000mah 25/45C pack

$100 for 3s 4200mah 35/65C pack

I think these aren't enerland, but are the same cells. The chinese cells are getting better and better. I think both packs will be great however, because they both have a good matching process and wouldn't put out a less then top-of-the-line pack.
