No pics? What setup are you going to run?

I will run a 1509 1.5d with a MM on 2s lipo. I have some pq hardcase 5100 25c 2s lipos that fit nicely. Gearing with a 16t pinion seems to be about spot on, my batt was not charged, so I will throw it on the charger tomorrow and see how it does. Gave it a spin just now and the cd unloads bad, thinking some 10k in there will do the trick. Feels like it has 0k right now... I may try 7k first, just to see the difference. Otherwise it handled well and seems to tun and track well. Definitely a track truck, not enough ground clearance to bash on my usual areas (grass and ditches), but they are more suited for a MT anyways. And here are your pics, the coloring book is in the mail for you... http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...p/DSCF3455.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...p/DSCF3456.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...p/DSCF3457.jpg |
How would you compare the operation of this truck's shocks to those on the stock CRT.5? A LHS has one of these for about $170 (not the one I work at though :( ) and I've been contemplating picking it up. After all I still have the MM/9L laying around from my previous CRT.5. And durability?

Ultimate Hobbies is the 3rd closest hobby store to me, so I'd be paying sales tax with them no matter what. And they have superbly crappy service from what I hear (in store) so they aren't my first choice. I'd rather spend the extra $10 and get it from a more friendly store.
If you wouldn't mind a quick comparison of the shocks, I would greatly appreciate it  |

Sales tax sucks, I would rather pay shipping! But if you can get your grubby mitts on the truck faster is worth the squeeze... |
I'd move the Rx up if I were you and get those wires away from the gearing.. PS 7k-f,10k-c,3k-r works great...

The wiring is not permanent, just threw it in there to tr out my setup. I had to laugh when I saw your wires wrapped around the motor leads! Only with spectrum would that work!
What do the diffs have in them stock? Grease? feels like it. I need to move the MM over and back a bit, and reroute the signal wires. I will leave the rx on the servo, as I like the antenna routing there. Plus I can make a wire clamp for the signal wire next to the rx, using those 2 bolt holes. |
Yea Linc. All 3 diffs come with grease in them from the factory. I put 3-3-2 in mine and it worked pretty good for the track. (thats what the guys who were racing these at OCRC found to be a good setup.) Wont be pulling any wheelies with that diff setup, but it makes it more controllable on the track. These little guys can get pretty squirley with the tiny wheelbase. You could probably go up a little in the center. I think you are going to be running a little more power than I am with the 1509 vs the Medusa 50mm I have and the OCRC guys were running them with Novak GTB systems from what I read.
Metalman. The shocks actually work pretty well. I think they are better than the CRT.5 shocks. I ran it on a pretty rough track and it handled pretty well. The biggest challenge was actually ground clearance. I bottomed out pretty easy with the factory oils I'm not sure what they are but I read somewhere that they come with 30wt from the factory. I might try changing the oil to something like 35-40 weight to help with landing jumps. Durability is very good from the driving I did. I drove it on a rough 1/8 track, very rutted and some good size jumps. Did quite a few cartwheels and lawn darts sending it tumbling end over end and it took all of the beating and didn't break anything yet. The only thing that happened was I tagged the tube with the front wheel on a nose down landing and I popped a pillow ball out of the socket. This happened in like the 2nd lap I was running with it, but I went right back together in like 5 minutes and never popped out again. Like I said earlier... most fun Ive had in RC for $160 in a long time. Its a pretty cool little truck. Only real complaint is the stock tires are pretty much crap. I have a set of bowties that came with my CRT.5 I am going to try next time out. They certainly cant be worse. |

OCRC is my local track (assuming I am think of the same place... Orange County RC Raceway), but I haven't been there in a while. Guess this is what I missed! |
Any updates?

still running 7/10/3 on the track w/ stock everything, she's an animal :) I love the medusa 50mm v2's, this 4800 is perfect on 2s lipo. I run two laps by the time the first slash hits 1!
?what else are you looking for in the way of an update? I got my second one here and will be tearing it down in the next few days to swap out the grease (what a pain).. wish it was just a kit :) LOL |
How they are holding up and if you have had any issues with parts bending/breaking? I'm 99% sure that I'm going to get one next.

I hit a car tire at 30+ mph. Cracked on part of the upper arm and bent the cvd. Lower front arm and shock were fine,, as were all of the hingepins. I straightened out the cvd and ca-ed a piece of plastic over the crack on the arm. Still going strong. My temps improved after putting 7k fluid in the cd. I guess the unloading of the center diff was causing the motor to run very lightly loaded. I need to either add some cooling holes to the body, or a fan to the MM. I may make a new smaller top deck for the cd and put the MM above the servo so it has more breathing room. Other than that it seems to be a great vehicle. I think it handles better than my crt.5 I had a while back.

OK it looks like I'm going to get one!!!
