would something like this work?
http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/s...2/100_4349.jpg LOL its only 1/4HP and 900rpm. but its sick! |
LOL, nice Kyosho.... but what relevance is that on this topic?
Linc, So it's better than wiring each cell together with something like 10awg wire? Just a theory, but seeing as it's only about 2.5C discharge, couldn't this work? If one cell was slightly lower resistance, or capacity, it would just constantly keep it equalized? It just seems like it would be safer than paralleling at the mains leads, but has your experience said otherwise? I just don;t want to be charging each pack separately, you know... I may have been better off just going A123's.... at least you can parallel/series them to your hearts content, as they are pretty much 100% identical. |
You can wire the packs in parallel, I would do it off the main leads with bullet connectors, that way to can separate them easily if necessary. That way you could separate the packs to do a maintenance charge every now and then. Plus if you ever plan to sell the packs they can be sold individually. How do you plan to charge a 12000mah lipo? You can make a harness to parallel all of the balance connectors together for balance charging. That is what i would do. If you only plan to use 40-80 amps 12 gauge wire is plenty.

What is the max mah-capacity a 720i charger can do? 10Ah?
So you are saying you CAN charge the pack with a balance adapter? Couldn't that be dangerous for that little wire? Would you be able to make me an adapter? But if you say this can't be done easily and fool proof, should I just go A123 pack? I can always keep these packs for my Revo, OR just sell them. |

Here are some pics of one of the packs with shrink off.

I would charge thru the main leads but make an adapter to link all of the balance taps together so you can balance the packs during the charge via the 720I's internal balancer. The 720I is powerful, on 6s you can charge the full 10amps, as long as your power supply is up to snuff... |
Okay... the power supply is the one that Mike sells, the 250 watt unit (barely). However he just shipped yesterday when I ordered it on Monday with express shipping....:no:

I might be using these for the mower instead... and keep the Lipo's for my Revo.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...%3D4%26ps%3D10 SuicideNeil posted this up in GD board (and never notified me ..... :whip::lol:), you can buy 12 M1 cells for $65!!! I don't really know how or why they are selling for so cheap, especially when they have to put in labor to dissect the Dewalt 36v batts? Strange. $260 can get me 48 cells, plus another 8 or 16 cells I have already that am not using, and I have 45 minutes of grass cutting runtime! BEAUT! Someone already bought a set, so I will have to get him to verify the genuine nature of them. I don't know of any A123 knock-offs, but you never know. cheers |
I am just wondering if I should balance the pack or not. Does anyone know of an A123 capable balancer, and one that I could leave plugged into the pack 24/7?
|
The hyperion lba 10 can do a123 (newer models of this balancer, must say a123 on the front) If you need more than 6s, you can link 2 of the balancers to get up to 12s.

Okay. Do these things have any kind of leakage currents when the pack is in balance, hence not working? Would u know?
