I'm not gonna say it... I'm not gonna say it...

traxxasbasher13 06.09.2009 04:00 PM

Lol.

Metallover 06.09.2009 04:03 PM

Well that heatsink has a fan on it.. Just put a fan on your motor or gear down, please.

traxxasbasher13 06.09.2009 04:05 PM

I will just get a fan for now I guess.

BrianG 06.09.2009 04:07 PM

Ya know, if you lived in Canada, or similar latitude, you wouldn't need a fan.

Heat dissipation will always be better when the temperature difference (delta T) between the hot object and ambient is larger. BUT, a cooler motor will be more efficient because the cooler the copper is, the less resistance it has.

I know. I don't have a choice where I live though. I don't pay the bills my parents do.

BrianG 06.09.2009 04:13 PM

lol, I didn't really expect you to say "Hey, that's a good idea! I'm gonna uproot my whole life so my motor can stay cooler!"

traxxasbasher13 06.09.2009 04:15 PM

I wish it was a little cooler here. if I had the choice I would move somewhere cooler.

I would suggest gearing down a bit to lower temps rather than add a fan or heatsink. Then if it's still hot try a fan, most likely you will need a fan since your in AZ. I don't know how you do it down there, it's too hot for me here in NY!

traxxasbasher13 06.09.2009 11:12 PM

Well you have to wear shorts and a short sleve shirt for most of the year, or you will get heat stroke. And you have to drink lots of water. Thats how you survive down here.

Back to the thread. Well right now 5 people say add a fan, 3 people say add a heat sink and 2 for lowering the gearing. I think I will add a fan for sure and lower the gearing.

I visited Phoenix for a week several years ago for my job, and my first day there, they hadn't gotten me a rental car yet. So lunchtime comes around and everyone leaves me at the shop. I walk outside, it's hot, but I figure it's not sooo bad, so I decide to walk a couple blocks to some corner store to get something. As I'm walking, it's still hot, but I see I'm not sweating. "Hmm, not too bad" I thought. But as soon as I walk into the air conditioned store, sweat began gushing out of every pore in my body. I felt like I stepped out of a pool (and looked like it too). That one experience was enough for me!

I tell people this story and they give me the old "oh, but it's a dry heat" line. Makes me want to punch them in the lips.

Thats funny. :lol:I got suspended from the bus once and I hade to ride my bike to school. it was just starting to get hot outside, but i didn't think much of it. It was maybe 85*f in the mornings so it wasn't to bad, but the first day on the way home at 4 p.m. it was over 100*F. I didn't think it was so bad until I got home. I walked inside and started sweating like crazy. Then my Mom came home and laughed at me.:na: She said "Wow you sweating a lot, I bet you wish you wouldn't have gotten suspended from the bus. Am I right?"
I had got suspended for 10 days for writing on the bus windows with a hot glue stick. Those 10 days were hell. It was bull$hit because it came off the windows and It was easy to get off. 10 days was stupid.

Metallover 06.10.2009 12:06 AM

What did you write?

traxxasbasher13 06.10.2009 12:09 AM

All kinds of crap. I hated the bus driver.
