Thanks for the heads up! I called and went ahead and picked up the 1521/2y/S. Unfortunately (even though the site doesn't say so) the lady on the phone said it has an 8mm shaft. But damn, this motor has a low kv... 780! Should work great on 12s, but I'm gonna run it on 10s for starters.
Anybody know how SDP-SI's "Carbon Steel" pinions will hold up to a steel spur without hardening? Or with hardening? They have both an 18t and 20t in 8mm bore which is what I'll need to run in my XLB. |
I have those pinions MM. I would not say that they are that good, the set screws are tiny, and I mean tiny.
I have 3 of the 1521 8mm shaft motors, and the tdr colleted pinion adpaters are the best thing I have found... Or pull the rotor out and have it turned down. |
I just picked up that 1112/2D. I plan to put it in my 1/16 E-Revo when it gets here. I'll be saving the stock motor for running in the wet.
This thing should purr nicely in there. 3250KV for right around 40K on a fully charged 3S pack, and from what I can tell, dimensions are almost exactly that of the stock motor (I think its a couple mm longer). |

Found it: http://www.tdracingrc.com/TD%20Product%20Line.htm Will he do a custom 8mm shaft size version? They're already decently expensive at $35 so I wouldn't want to spend much more... |
Yeah, it is a bit pricey... I paid 40 for the one he sold me. I use lst and mike's 2 speed pinions with it. I would just pull the rotor and have the shaft turned down.

One of my buddies will be taking the machine shop class at school this summer (same one I took 2 years ago)... I could see about going in with him one day and asking the instructor's help with it.

did anyone here buy the 1521/1y/s?
I ordered it but wondered if anyone else ordered it because the item isnt taken off the website when you buy so wondering who got it first |
They may have more than 1 available.

Since they don't take the motors off the page when they are purchased it is best to call and make sure they have it available first before you pay for it. Otherwise you'll just have to get a refund

yes my problem was that it was late at night and I didnt want to loose it so I bought it...I just called and its mine:party: |
Awesome! You got lucky  If that motor had been available 2 months ago I would have picked it up in a heartbeat... should be PERFECT on 6s. But now I'm running 10s instead so I have no use.

Yes I will putting it in a larger 40" catermaran boat on 10s maybe even 6s just for sport running but the thing I found out from steve neu was that the "y" wind motors can be run with a higher timing seting....."D" wind has to be set at the lowest timing ....where Y can be move up = faster |
1521/1Y on 10s? Thats 58,349 rpm's... 6s would be 35000rpms and would be more appropriate. But in a 40" Cat, it might be a little underpowering. I'd definitely prop conservatively and only use it in sport running.
I hope you bought the 1521/2Y/S... |
I bought the 1521/2Y
