I had a bad exp with a CCBEC, been using an Rx pack for that reason.

But I have to agree with Brian at the same time, I'm ready for a BEC.

Any of you have experience with this Hyperion BEC? http://www.allerc.com/product_info.p...oducts_id=2821

No, I think an added circuit that should shunt anything over 6.5v directly to ground would be better. This would blow an on board fuse or something like that. Yeah, the device would still be toast, but would save whatever expensive circuitry it was attached to.

Why not use a Zener Diode? One rated for enough amps to blow the trace off the board if it has no internal fusing.

Yeah, a zener or TVS would do the same thing effectively, but I think the TVS may react a tad faster since they are designed for sensitive circuits.

BTW: I posted this BEC failure scenario at an electronics forum. I have an idea that will be simple to make and easy to use, but am curcious what the experts have to say. Who knows, maybe such a device may eventually find its way into the RCM store? I could be used for any UBEC output, including ones built into the ESC.

Update:

The servo amplifier board came in today, so I popped the old one out and soldered the new one in. My expensive Futaba S9155 servo lives! Yay! Sometimes, doing these repairs yourself can save quite a bit of cash. Not too many people would try to fix a receiver and servo, but instead of costing over $200 for a new servo and receiver, it only costed me ~$30 for the servo board.

Glad to hear the operation was a success and a lesson for us all.
