Yeah, a zener or TVS would do the same thing effectively, but I think the TVS may react a tad faster since they are designed for sensitive circuits.

BTW: I posted this BEC failure scenario at an electronics forum. I have an idea that will be simple to make and easy to use, but am curcious what the experts have to say. Who knows, maybe such a device may eventually find its way into the RCM store? I could be used for any UBEC output, including ones built into the ESC.

Update:
The servo amplifier board came in today, so I popped the old one out and soldered the new one in. My expensive Futaba S9155 servo lives! Yay! Sometimes, doing these repairs yourself can save quite a bit of cash. Not too many people would try to fix a receiver and servo, but instead of costing over $200 for a new servo and receiver, it only costed me ~$30 for the servo board. |
