Nope. my Airtronics M8 handles it just fine.

I know the spektrum Dx3/2.0 can handle 3s fine also.

Yeah I actually edited my post because I remembered a lot of radios still take more than 4 AA cells. I'm just used to my Losi MTX Pro and Nomadio Sensor which both are only 4.8v-6v

Simplechamp-I did it outside my house in a wheelbarrow full of gravel away from everything but green grass. The battery is still there as I type this till tonight when I will discharge it and then dispose of it. Thanks for your concern though.

The battery in question was used for a starter box (14.8v 4s 2200mah) not my transmitter.

Depending what brand of TX, the Traxxas TQ3,JR XS3's, many others run on 8 AA's at 1.25v per cell = 10v. Going with a 3s is fine,I personally use a Voltage regulator to play safe.
The Spektrums like the DX3 S&R use 4 AA's and a 2s is usable but again to play it safe I use a Voltage regulator where many do not and have great success and no issues.

Losi and several other companys have a built in regulator right in the pack to determin safe voltage.

I agree, like for starter boxes. I think I'm going to go for a gel cell 12v battery for this box but for now I still have another 14.8 4s 2200mah battery that works just fine. I just couldn't help trying again with the dead one and it is taking a charge today so maybe all is not lost yet......

Yesterday I charged the battery 1000mah on .5A nimh setting and when I tried to charge on lipo setting it would not charge (voltage too low)so I left it outside last night in a lipo sack and all day while at work. It was hot and sunny in the 90's. When I got home I decided to try one last time to see if it would charge on lipo setting.For some reason it started to charge all the way up to 14.8v with no puffing and the battery never got above room temperature, however after it was finished charging I watched the voltage dropping on the charger screen (ice) I don't remember ever seeing that before but it went down to 13.8v before I unplugged it. It's resting peacefully outside again tonight and after work tomorrow I'm thinking I might try to discharge it and maybe charge again and see what happens...

Unfortunately the Ice and others like it, most will not discharge more thn 1.0amp. Thats gonna be the test is the discharge. I agree to do what you've posted and just see what it's goona do ? Best of Luck.

My 2 Ice's will discharge at 8A. Is it different on the newer models? *Edit* Yep! The new models can handle 10A.... :smile:

A lipo should NOT do that. Once the CV stage begins, the voltage should stay "locked" at 4.2v/cell and the current should decrease until whatever the charger deems the end current to be. If the voltage is dropping during the CV stage, either something is wrong with the charger or pack.

The last time I looked at the charger(while charging) it was at 14.785v and 1300 or so mah, the alarm sounded and the screen said time exceeded or something, it had charged for 10800 sec. The charger was done charging when I noticed the voltage dropping. I'm pretty sure this battery is shot but I'm just trying something to see if it will work. I mean what can I do..ruin it? I'm doing this as safely as possible so at worst I let the smoke out and then I'll be sure this battery is done.

The final update is battery is no good. The battery has 3 "good" cells and 1 that won't even register on my balancer. #1 cell has 7.3V , #2 has 5.6 and #3 has 5.4V. How can this battery still be showing 14.3V on only 3 cells? In any case this battery is probably headed for the trash can. What's the safest way to discharge this battery?
