just an assumption but i think its set so far forward so he can have the motor over the center were the tranny would usually go. and for better weight distribution also i would guess. oh, and VERY VERY nice by the way. i was thinking of the exact same thing.

Love the center diff... It must be so much lighter than the E-Maxx tranny (even with single speed conversion). Hope to see some more of your "tricks."

MAN, this makes me feel like my g2r is a POS:( VERY nice dafni, it will fly!!

Thanks for the nice comments! No more hush hush here for me, it's just RC, and I don't mind sharing my hobby with you guys.

I was refering to the shock caps, but i see it was a shadow i saw that looked like a seal of some sort.

no problem with the props, that kind of craftsmanship deserves at least that.

Hope to see it at the get-together

Yeah, the long 1950 fits just in between the shocks and mount. Close fit, but very very low. Lowest I have ever seen on a Gorilla. And it's centered. I love it.
As for thinking the exact same, many people do. A center diff is a nice thing to have in a racer.

Yeah, it is lighter. It also has a noticeable smoother rolling resistance. I gave those diffs some extra love, and man, this is a smooth driveline. (diffs are alu cases and cups, with modified ringgears, btw) But still, I look forward to the bulkless with 8th scale buggy diffs.

The lower final gear ratio will also give less rolling resistance with the motor connected. Of course this will also mean less torque, but with this kind of motor (and overall weight) this is nothing to worry about.

Yes, I hope I can manage to turn up there....would be a dream come true!

Thank all of you for the nice comments! I feel blessed to be among you guys, and I really hope I can make it to the Get-Together. Just for fun, here's an older pic with a motor mounted. You might see how easy it will be to make a brace to support the rear of the motor.

Hey Dafni. are you going to put a brace on the holes where the transmission origionaly mounted? I noticed on my G2R that even with the lower plate on, without the transmission there is a lot of flex in the middle of the chassis where the transmissiom mounted to the X-braces. Just a thought and a heads up.

once again WOW!!!!

Dafni 02.15.2006 08:27 AM

Indeed! A (adjustable) brace to support the rear of the motor.
And some holes will be used to mount the ESC-mount.

Also, the upright motor-mount will be cross-braced to the chassis. In one of the pics in the first post you can see the hole in the motor-mount.

The x-braces alone have some flex, but with the lower plate it is pretty rigid, IMHO. But you are right, extra support wont hurt.

Still a concern might be the area where I had to modify the x-braces to make room for the spur.... maybe I'll brace this too.

Thanks for the WOW, thought you will like it.

Just something i noticed with mine that i thought i would pass along.

I have always had a thing for low profile cars( comes from my slotcar days) I also have an HPI pro3 touring car for that reason. I love a design where you can put most of the weight at or near the centerline of the wheels

and yes the motor looks right sitting there

Dafni 02.15.2006 09:40 AM

Thanks for the heads up, crazy. Your input is appreciated!

CCristo 02.15.2006 02:20 PM

Dafni,

That looks great. What size spur are you using? Could you have put the diff towards the back or is there not enough room?
