the 2200 is a larger motor, will run cooler and be plenty fast and you can gear it up (faster) with no heat issues. The 2650 if you put it in a truggy which is basically a monster truck with a center diff will get real hot and you would need/have to find the right gear and the faster KV speed benefit would be negated by the lack of gearing options. Anyone want to help out here or is this payback for when I was a n00b and did this to you all ?

Although I now think it's high time I dived in and simply bought the kit to get this rolling!:surprised: Got an RC-M battery tray from a friend. So I'm going to order up the below I think: MMM ESC and 2200kv combo RC-M motor mount Losi 'e' radio tray for steering servo and to house RX Hyperion 4S 6500mah lipo Imax B6AC charger/balancer Any thoughts on that charger? Or should I get a different one that would charge the Hyperion lipo better/faster? The B6AC is only about £40 |
OK, anyone got any thoughts on the charger?
Also, I see often people refer to what speed they have got their kit geared to. Is that important? I guess to a degree as it would control the amount of resistance to the motor/esc when running. I had a go with the top speed calc from the link here and was considering 18/48, top speed 47mph with 4S? |
You won't need 47mph to pass nitro's. My truggy's only geared for ~36mph and it's as fast or slightly faster than the nitro's I've raced against. Usually 35mph to 40mph is good for racing, depending on your track and driving style. The setup might handle 47mph, but it might make your lap times worse, and make it harder to get 20 minutes runtime.

My thoughts:
ESC and motor: 2200KV MMM combo is spot on. Very powerful, efficient, reliable, and overall great value for money. CC is one of very few companies that has a 1 year warranty and they DO stand behind their products. Most of the ESCs I have smoked have been all my fault and they have replaced all but one (which was out of the warranty period) under warranty. It'll take a few weeks to get your replacement, but if you go with Castle you know they've got your back. If you decide to save a few $ and go with a HobbyWing you are on your own, I don't know what their service is like but they can't touch CC. Battery: That 6500 may be a bit heavy, but they are good lipos and if it doesn't give you 20+ minutes something is wrong. 4s is perfect for racing with the 2200, 5s and 6s gives you more power than you can really use while racing. Charger: I don't know anything about Imax chargers, I think I've heard of people using them with great success but I have never owned one or known anyone who has used one. I have had a Hyperion for the last 3+ years and it has been an excellent charger, so naturally I throw my support behind them. |
