First of all, the MM will need the latest firmware that allows programming via the throttle cable.

If you have a MM with a BEC, I would temporarily re-insert the red wire into the throttle cable. You won't need a battery this way.

If you don't want to do this, depending on how you have your BEC hooked up may still require a seperate power source for the card, AND use a battery to power the MM.

Why would I need to plug in at the receiver outlet when the card has a place to plug in my usb cable? I just want to know if I can simply plug in any battery even a 2s then plug in my usb and make adjustments. Or will I need to do something else.

Sorry, I didn't see that it was to be used with a PC. The USB from the PC will power the card and the ESC, but if the red wire is removed, power won't reach the ESC. So, you will have to hook up a battery pack to the ESC.

So why wouldn't you just plug directly into the usb port on the mm instead of using the card?

Well, you can. But the MM is the only controller with a USB port - -for any other controller, you would need either the programming card, or a USB adapter to program with a PC.

The idea of the card is that it allows programming with a PC on ANY controller, and quick programming at the field without a PC.

Patrick I am confused. My mamba max is in a 1/8 scale using a bec. Can I plug the "computer end" of my usb cord into the card and the other end into the esc, plug in my main battery and make the adjustments the card shows on the display without a separate power source?
If not please explain what is needed to make the card work in the field without a computer.

The USB is only used when you want to use the computer. Period. When the card is hooked up to a computer and an ESC, it ONLY functions as a Castle Link device.

In your case, you will want to plug the ESC throttle cable into the card, hook up your battery to the ESC, and you will also need a way to power the card itself with 5-6v. This is why I said to temporarily put the red wire into the ESC throttle cable.

What he said is correct. ^^^ The card uses the ESC RX cable for programming.

Dumd question?

Just a dumb short question. Why did Castle Creations go with the soft wrapper rather than a hard plastic case? I'm not bitching mind you, I am grateful to have the field link just curious as to why, was it to make it more affordable?
