That motor is just massive! Looks like you can just run a spur as a pinion with that motor.

I have both, the chevrons and the bowties... Not sure if i want 4lbs of wheels/tires on my truck though! I really need to sell some tires, I have 3 26 gallon totes full... Must be at least 100lbs of wheels/tires...

The bowtie CENs are MUCH lighter than the chevrons.

I have a couple sets and have compared the weights to the Losi ATX's and they weigh the same even though their much larger.

While your grind job was HACK, it was a good one, and I've done crap like that more times than I can remember.

I've been trying to get a friend of mine to get a lathe/mill combo machine for years. The possibilities with these are almost endless. With a cheap indexer or angle vise you could do pretty much anything a 4 axis NC can do, albeit a bit slower.

The hard part is convincing people that these machines can pay for themselves in less than one year. And that goes for rookies too. Think about the money most of us have in ONE rc, not to mention the motor junkies like yourself :)

$1300 is actually a small investment on the potential returns you could make with one of these. VERY small.
Even if you're only doing parts for yourself!

Hmm, I do like the look of this. I had planned to buy something, as it would be handy to have. I even have a decent area to put it.

I would not buy large equipment like this from HF, I have had a few of their drill presses and the bearing wear out very quickly... I plan to take one of them apart and see what can be done with the bearings...

I have read thru grizzly before and did like the combo machines. I hate to buy something I will outgrow, but you have to start somewhere...

Only issue is I would have to keep it a secret, everyone I know would want me to make stuff for them!

Yeah both HF and Grizzly have mini mills and mini lathes, but for the price difference you'd be a fool not to go with a Combo. HF stuff can be dodgy, you do get what you pay for!

The cheaper Grizzly I linked would be better for shorter, larger diameter parts. The $1295 one better for longer, smaller diameter parts. But the main advantage of the $1295 one is that it's layout is most similar to a standalone mill, and looks very user-friendly.

I would have one by now if I didn't have access to machines at work.

I can get you started on tool selection/profiles and tooling compatibility. And some basic tips on material characteristics.

I work with some lesser known stuff, Kovar, Invar, Monel, Beryllium, and Inconel to name a few.

Also all the better known stuff, so I'd be good for lots of tips.

In the meantime let's hope Castle sticks with 5mm!

Good to know, you are the machine guy! I started a thread about various machine type tools, any input would be greatly appreciated. I need some better/bigger tools for the shop. Mabe if I can get some work done the shop can pay for them!!!

I have a lot of interlocking knowledge in the metal trades, which to me is worth much more.

OK, so I got the m4 sized mount plate from tdr and got the 1717 mounted correctly. Plenty of engagement with the motor shaft into the pinion now that the rcm spacer has been removed. The motor also clears the tranny mount when running 25/63 gearing. I also assembled the rest of the truck, all I have to make is a battery tray and add a receiver. I plan to make the tray big enough to fit all of my 6s packs, so I can compare them with this motor. I plan t run the stock lst2 wheels and tires, so this gearing should do about 45mph. I am excited to see it roll again, it has been 6 months or so since I pirated the parts off it for the muggy.

Ok, 8 months later I got a wild hair up my azz and decided to finish this...

Put the rec in, mount up some badlands (bit smaller than I would have liked but the truck currently has 17mm hexes on it.) and threw in the zippy flightmaxx 5kmah 40c 6s pack.

This pack has sat since I ordered it, which must be more than 6 months. Not out of balance and still had good voltage so I ran it as it was, no charge!!!! Wow, lots of power with the 1717. Did about 10mins and everything was staying cool. Plan to swap the 20mm hexes on the truck tomorrow, charge the battery, and put the lst2 wheels/tires on it. Might balance them first, as I can imagine they will be off.

I now remember why I like the lst so much, it just handles well. Plus I can pull wheelies with the 1717 at any speed. More peppy than I remember the 1521 1y being.

This motor will make it into the 1/6 scale lst based buggy, should be just right for that. Plan to run the 1521 2y on 10s in the 6x6 lst, and run the other 1521 1y I have in this lst. Everything else will be sold. Expect alot of rollers and parts to pop up soon. I have alot of savage stuff to move!!!
