Overboard, probably, but you have to think if you have young children playing around, maybe picking up the dog's toys & trying to play with, it may think they're trying to take its toys away = conflict. I wouldnt trust a rehomed animal with little kids, especially if it has a history.

Heck, there have been plenty of young children killed or mauled by family pets recently, even when that pet has been owned since a puppy and raised with the kids- the animals dont know any better, its just nature.

Better a kitten than a child, Need to get that dog in check or outside befor the kids arrive.

Ever see a Dog fly? I have, right threw the kitchen and out the door. My niece was unharmed but the next day they got rid of the dog. They gave it to my in laws brother.

Wow. I can't even imagine. In my house that dog would have been put down immediately with no hesitation. I would never kill an animal for no reason, but no animal of any kind attempts to hurt my child and lives to repeat that mistake.

If that's the case, they have NO business keeping that dog. It needs to go to a child-free home or be put down.

I agree, and this could be a very good warning and sign before something more tragic happened with kids. i'm not gonna be the one to suggest getting rid of the dogs though....

Why won't you be the one to suggest getting rid of the dogs?

That sounds like the start of a family feud. You can certainly ask questions though.> Are you sure the kids will be safe after something like this happened?, Are you worried about something happening to the kids?

There are always ways to get your point across without "telling" someone what to do. You could also blame us, say "people online think the children may be at risk"

You can't blame an animal lover for loving animals. She was clearly just trying to help them. Just a shitty deal all around. Something needs to be said though. What if one of the kids is running around with a twinkie and the dog decides it wants the twinkie?

I hope I don't come across as callous. I grew up on a farm and witnessed the birth and death of animals 100 times over. I've pulled live lambs out of dead ewes. I would never intentionally hurt an animal, but I would never compromise my life/family/finances/dinner for an animal. Just me.

Good luck freeze, and never bring your kitty to your sisters place!

My son after a visit from the neighbors golden retriever... This was caused by possessive food behavior... Yes many would have had the dog put down - Thats not us...

Mostly For My families farm, it's dead lambs out of live ewes.

Meh, animals are animals. Not much else to say. They lack the little tiny bit of common decentcy we have, plus they are usually not aware or their own strength.

I have a Toby (american eskimo+poodle+godknowswhat=Toby) and he is a great guy. He is a huge help in my house in that he will attempt to keep the furnitre from floating away should gravity fail. He also serves as the door bell, alerting me if anyone is outside (or within 500 miles of the house). He also keeps the wheels on my grill shiny, and has booby trapped the side gate with some "Toby Treats" (just try getting that off your shoe).

I watch him alot, as he has a ton of personality and is very intelligent and perceptive. He always knows when I am feeling down, and will snuggle with me to cheer me up. He also loves to play, especially tug. But at the end of the day he is a dog. About the worst thing he has done is bit my hand, but I was hitting him for crapping on the carpet. He did not really mean to bite me, he was just scarred and I had him in a corner. He will pee on the curtains if I leave him in all day, which is fine case they wash easily. I could get mad, but he knows when he has done wrong and hides in his little indoor kennel.

You cannot really blame a dog, they are trainable but still have instincts. Toby could care less if I fool with his food, must mean he is never hungry.

My parents had a lab/chow mix that would not eat his food unless you pretended to go for it. He would growl and bark, but wag his tail the whole time. It was his favorite game. I guess some dogs are just different. You could take his food away while he was eating it and he just did not care.

Sorry to hear about the cat, bet it looked like that chainsaw maid claymation stuff...

Suggesting and telling are two incredibly different things. In my opinion, suggesting includes asking the questions you mentioned. It can also include suggesting the right thing to do without telling them they have to do it.

Sometimes people are torn by emotion and might make a terrible decision if someone close doesn't suggest a better solution. If done properly, there is no reason for it to become a feud.

I think we're on the same page.

Chris, in Asia, that dog would had been slaughtered, cooked, and eaten as an appetizer by drunks in the street corner.

Sorry but no animal is more important than the safety of people imo.

I have to agree. We have evolved our way out of being able to defend ourselves from most animals, so some measures must be taken to ensure that we can be safe. Fences work quite well, as do leashes...
