83 cents a litre here in Canada and we pull it out of the ground 5 hours from my house,go figure.

The problem in Europe is the fuel taxes that the Gov puts on every liter of fuel that is brought into the country. In allot of European countries there is something like a 100% tax on fuel. Just like everything else in Eu the taxes just kill the cost of anything and everything, but that is also why you have medical and educational benefits for free. The last time I read the income tax level in the UK was right at about 50% on every pound earned. there are pros and cons to both sides of that coin. Sure we have lower tax rates in the USA, but we also have a serious medical benefit issue and our education options have gone through the roof $$$$$. So it all depends on how you are looking at the situation.

Prices jump around a lot over here. It's not uncommon for the price to change by $0.05/gal overnight. A few days ago, it was $2.28/gal, but I just filled up on the way home from work tonight and it was $2.30/gal. Prices are generally cheaper here because the gas is mixed with ethanol, which is produced from corn, and we are a corn state, so...

Gas is $2.35 right now in SD. One local Kum and Go as gas at $2.30.

Diesel is $2.69/gal. I heard it's a lot cheaper in europe?

Go figure, my family and community basically run the oil refineries and we still pay higher prices.

Haha,last year around here it hit $1.79 a litre and I have 3 large refineries 20 minutes from my house as well as the oil sands up north.I think the commotities market sets the prices,todays price for gas was set 6 months ago and unless there is a disaster somewhere they will keep setting the price.

i pay 1.50perL for 98 octane here in aus or around 5.60 a gallon

doesn't stop me driving my V8 ute = )

I have travled and lived in many countries around the world over the last 6 years, and I can tell you for sure that the USA has about the lowest prices of any country in the world for gas. We have a Dodge Grand Caravan LE and when we fill it up in the USA it will cost us about $45 for a tank full of regular gas. When we were in Brussels, Belgium we had to fill up on our way to Paris in May/2007, and when I saw the total amount on the pump I was freaking out, because it was approximately $135. I thought there was something wrong with the pump or that some how the last person left us with their fill up payment. We normally used a gas card to keep our van filled up that we purchased through the US Embassy at USA prices, but when you travel out of your assigned country or zone you have to pay the regular full price.

We have the best gas prices of just about any other country in the world and yet we go freakin nuts when it reaches over $3 per gallon. I could not understand how people could even afford to drive while we were in Europe, but most of the people who do drive on a regular daily basis can only do so because their company or business paid for their gas. In Europe with periodic vehicle inspections, insurance, road tax, and the cost of gas you need a job just to pay for your car and travel expenses. That is why in most European countries the public transportation system is so much better than those that you see in the USA.

Last I filled up it was $2.649 for 85.5 octane. I fill my Subaru at around the half tank mark for about $20, and run 87 Octane in the Mustang at about $25-$30 per half tank. I live about 11 miles away from work which is closer than the nearest grocery store, so alternative transportation isn't an option. I want to build an electric go kart, but I doubt I can afford to build one that would make it to town and back...

In England where I am petrol is currently £1.129/litre or $1.78 and is 90% tax, when converting from gallons remember the US gallon is a fair bit smaller than a regular imperial gallon, I didn't know the US had modified octane ratings too though I just assumed the octanes over there were lower to keep the cost down when high octane isn't needed for the typical low compression American engine.

Currently you have to be earning a hell of a lot over here to be in the 50% income tax bracket, although I think the cap will be dropped to £100K - $158k after the election in may to reduce the debt we just picked up, everyone in my circle of friends gets about 32%.
