I believe Saab and Hummer are no longer owned by GM. Whatever happens with all of this Toyota recall stuff won't change my opinion of them. I will not get rid of my FJ, xB or the wife's yaris. I couldn't be happier with any other vehicles.

Oh, and I forgot Isuzu. Who can forget the Hombre. |
Add Saturn, Hummer, Saab to that list as well.
EDIT: I guess I was too late... |
I am with ZP on this one, the pieces too easily fit together. See we do agree on some things. :intello:
1. The US Gov has a major stake in GM is publicly pulling their strings, case in point when Obama fired the previous CEO (who funny enough now has a rather lucrative consulting contract with GM) 2. GM has been failing left and right since the bailout, first the shutdown of Pontiac, next Penske backs out of the Saturn deal, and another big blow released today is theat the Chinese will not be buying Hummer, so now both Saturn and Hummer will be shutting down. 3. Toyota is the number one auto company in the world and does not have union employees, another huge Obama and Gov backer 4. Toyota backs out of deals with GM which are not in the best interest of Toyota 5. Now you have the people who control GM, launching investigations into their biggest rival, real conflict of interest here which can't be justified and/or ignored. This is like Target launching an investigation into Walmart and controlling the courts at the same time. Look at past recalls, none have ever been handled by the media or Gov in this manner. Anyone remember the GM gas tank issues where on impact trucks would explode? What about the tire issues on Explorers and other Ford vehicles? Before anyone says anything, yes the issue was with Firestone, a supplier, as is Toyota's issue is with Denso, and some other suppliers. What about the Chrysler braking issue over the past several years? What happened to all that. This is political, nothing more, nothing less. I find the accident reports very interesting as well, as none of them can prove beyond a doubt any failure on the vehicles part. One incident in particular involving a 2005 Camry is very obviously cooked up, as "witnesses" claim the rear wheels spinning aggressively under acceleration. This is rather curious, seeing as every Camry ever built/sold in the US has been front wheel drive only. Edit: Quick note, Saab was bought by the Dutch auto maker Spyker and the sale to the Chinese of Hummer feel through. http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2010/...nd-sale-falls/ |
Well the only person who agrees with me fully is the one who disagreed with me on all other topics! :mdr:
Yeah, IIRC, it was the NUMI joint Venture or something? GM pulled out of something early last year, then Toyota backed out on NUMI and I guess they didn't like that? Really though, just another story to fill the headlines, distract people of the real issues. |
Can you guys tell me one thing? Santy Claus is real, right guys? I've been doing my chores with no sass, and I haven't been rough housing with Linc or Nitro. I just want a red ryder bb gun somethin' awful, he's just got to be real.

I wouldn't say ALL topics ZP, just some. I would be willing to bet that we could find plenty to agree on.
Contrary to what some may think, I like ZP and guys like him. There is nothing wrong with a person who challenges the accepted way or thought processes. Funny enough is that some of my best friends are people I have had the biggest arguments/disagreements with. If we were all the same life would get boring pretty damn quickly. On the subject at hand I believe you are right ZP, NUMI or something close. I also think there was some major issues over Toyota not licensing their hybrid technology to GM several years back as well. |
Well I'm glad you feel that way Tex. Same here with friends, most of my friends have completely opposite viewpoint from me... if it's not in the mainstream news, then it's not true and shit like that. I have some very ignorant friends, but I still love them, as that is the way it should be. Although at times I feel like I want to have nothing to do with them.

There's nothing like driving a moving IED... ZPbug and Texas, I agree with you guys on this one. The conflict of interest is too great to be ignored. |

You two go get a room.... |
Things weren't exactly rosy at Toyota before this recall - they got a bit of a bailout from their own government as well, around the same time GM did. Some of the Japanese media is also ripping Toyota a new one right now. Failure isn't tolerated in Japan very well, and this recall is definitely being regarded as a failure over there.
This guys definitely feels the recall should have come sooner: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100225/...ta_fatal_crash Yes, all big automakers have had their recalls. Hell, even goodyear had a major debacle with the exploding tires. But let's not downplay Toyota's role in this, either. They're still playing games with giving different reasons & excuses for the issue. With some accounts saying that shifting in neutral & stepping on the brake being ineffective in stopping the cars, and yet Toyota still recently saying it's just floor mats & pedal adjustments. Step one was admitting the problem (the recall), but I wonder if they've even found / fixed the issue. And I've owned several toyotas & loved em. Tony |
