Yes ue cups are strong and have the 8 mm drive cups.

If you get the 8mm , you will never brake it, it will probably go last unless you put in 10s lipo, which i think should still hold up fine.

@stampy, No a mip cup is 6mm, the HB diffs asus an 8mm.

I have the UE drive cups for those in the need as well. 8mm bore drive cups are needed. Any 8mm drive cup should work(UE, ofna, HB, etc.).
The lightning diffs come in two flavors - Buggy and truggy. The truggy diffs have a lower ratio and are helical cut(ring/pinion). These are a great choice for center diff/direct drive applications. The buggy diffs have the standard 1/8 buggy ratio (3.31:1) and will work exactly like the UE diffs or any other 1/8 diff setup. The ring/pinion gears are not helical cut on the buggy diffs. Both have hardened internal gears. |
well crap i typed some stuff into that speed calc thing. and it looks like the only way to run those diffs are if your running a center diff. if you have a emaxx trans it you will need a ridiculous pinion size to get a nice final ratio

thats for the truggy ratio. the buggy ratio will work but id like to run the helical cut truggy gears cause they should be stronger
for the buggy ratio i get 14.53 to 1 final ratio and 49.61 mph this is with a 5.5" tire .25" for groth, emaxx locked in second with 51 20 gearing as for the truggy diff, to match that ratio and speed i would need a 26 tooth pinion if every thing else stayed the same. thats a huge pinion :eek: |
Stampy, you don't need to worry about the strength of the non-helical. They are tough.
My guess is that they are made helical, because otherwise a 10/43 would make too much noise. (this is one of the reasons why helical gears are used in transmissions of cars) |
ok started adding stuff up and found out that to use these gears i would need the gear set from mike 65 x2, a setup kit prolly 10 buxs, plus s&h then i would need a diff housing and 2 drive cups from ue 132 plus s&h, so ad it all up and you get 272 plus s&h. what im getting at here is the 8spyder kit from ue is 260, is the hb gear set really worth that? would the hb gear set be stronger than a ue 8spyder set? i know there gears are hardened and i know how strong stuff gets when you harden it but are all the gears in the hb gear set hardend?

The diff sets sold here include the bearings and drive cups, stampy. Put them inside a hybrid bulkhead and you come out pretty close in price to the 8 spider set with the cases(which aren't often in stock), but you have bulkheads in addition to the diffs. The diffs themselves are less expensive than the UE 8 spider diff sets. And yes, all the gears are hardened.

got couple questions
- will THS maxx CVDs fit into HB diff cups? or at least what are the measurements of those cups? - OK i need 8mm cup for the pinion will my front MIP CVD and rear FLM dogbode (comes with the extended maxx chassis) fit in those? |
