Oh ok. That should be possible with the 1518.

Well I finally finished my 1717 mount this morning. Ran into a snag yesterday.

You'll notice to mounting holes in the center that aren't being used. Those were originally my right most holes, but I realized they would interfere with the drive shaft so I elongated the mounting slot and made two more mounting holes.

My job only has 1/4-28 bolts so I'll have to stop by HD and get some socket head screws.

On the motor now is the CC 18T pinion. I have tons of travel in either direction between the slots that hold the motor and the slots that hold the mount so my gearing options should be very broad. Only thing limiting is the shell of the 1717 hitting the spur gear nut.

I may also be limited by where my steering servo is because I have GCM DB17 chassis, but I won't know that until I take this stuff home and put it back together this weekend.

looks good man, kep me posted on test results, and that second one if you ever build it. lol i wanna mount a 1520 w/o grinding the mounts, but maybe a 1717 wouldnt be bad either.

I have the FLM XL tvps, and was thinking of a way to mount the 1717 into it.... I think I just found the answer.

Here's the final version. I cut the top down to just over the height of the motor because it was hitting the top chassis rail on the motor side.

I also had to make a notch on the bottom to make room for the servo arm. Its a lot bigger than it needs to be, but I may install a longer servo arm one day.

The DB17 chassis does require some cutting to make room for the larger motor.

I'm waiting on some pinion gears from TCS and also trying to fab up a rear spoiler mount so the truck won't be all back together until this weekend at the soonest.

The mount does work great though.

Jeeesh. Finally got it in. The motor seriously is huge. I choose to run a 25t pinion and man, that thing is huge also. Way bigger than the 18t I was mocking up with. Its a good thing I built in a lot of adjust-ability.

I had to cut the chassis out for the motor AND for the pinion. Since my motor is mounted up kind of high, the pinion mates up with a wider part of the spur which pushed it out more.

Turned out good though, I'm pleased. Truck's rear end it currently apart so no running just yet. I'm waiting on a new rear shock tower, mine was bent all to heck.

Yet another deviation. :) Since the motor is so high, the ESC couldn't mount in its normal place on the chassis right above the motor. My adaptation is a piece of UHMW cut to size and mounted above the motor and servo. It now holds the ESC and RX. The horizontal screws hold strong, but I don't trust the veritical ones. My plan is to run longer bolts all the way through and put a nut/t-nut on them.

On the L shaped motor brackets I would like to see something like a turnbuckle or fat plate making a diagonal stiffener , as the L bracket will flex due to the weight of the motor hanging off it. The stock flux mount is very sturdy, would be nice if someone would make some replacement clamps for the various diameter motors.

With a thinner or different material, I would agree.

Mine is made from 1/4" 316 stainless steel. I work in a factory and tested another piece I had in 4 ton arbor press. Maxed out the press and it was only slightly bent. It ain't flexing in this truck.

I thought I remembered your mount. How thick was it, 3/16 or 1/8". With that, I would have agreed a support was needed.

Whoa, that's pretty big. That would be out of the question for those with just an XL size chassis as the battery boxes wouldnt fit. Looks like there's a little room to make the mount a little shorter. You can possibly mount the motor a little lower so it wont have to mesh with the wider part of the spur

Definitely agree it could have been lower. I think the battery boxes could fit with the motor lower. I'm uncertain though.

I was using battery boxes before, but with this much weight up front now I'm going to mount them in the back.
