well i went ahead and threw on a plastic spur. It seems a lot quieter than the metal spur, however I have not had a chance to run it outside yet to see how it holds up. Hopefully it holds up at least as long as the pinion gears.

Mine arrived. Guess I can put it in while I wait for a replacement ESC.
